My bs has been up in 20s for past few days taking normal amounts of insulin but some reason not coming down today feel so tired sick and really not myself any advice please

Have you been able to test your keytones? Would be worth checking if you can. I would also look on here for the sick day rules - gives good advice on what to do.
Also, have you checked your insulin / pens - whatever you use to make sure insulin is ok and is being administered correctly? Have you been doing correction doses?

My partner is trying to find a chemist open as it's the holidays! And yes done all the above

If you don't live to far from one, the larger supermarkets may have a chemist that's open.

I've got a copy , back in a mo

Thank u so much .. Ive not been ill well apart from a bad back but had that a while I've upped my fast acting .. can't get no keytone strips so I'll have to ring gp in morning )-;

If you cant get your bs down I would advise going to a&e to get checked over, or phone NHS 24, when I ran out of ketone strips I called them and they sent someone out to check my ketones ( I got let out the hospital with about 10 strips and when I tried to order them the chemist weren't getting them in until the next week) x

Sometimes we can have an underlying infection with no symptoms but our body knows.

If it was me I would phone and discuss with NHS 24 at least, but that's just me I'm not willing to risk anything x

Yea think I'll take ur advice and give them a call .. feel hungry but frightened it will push it up more x

What insulin do you take? Sick day rules tell you to take correction doses to try bring your BGs down.

If you start vomiting and feeling very dizzy I would definitely go to hospital as you may be experiencing DKA.

NHS 111 will be able to tell you where your nearest open chemist is to buy Ketostix. I definitely recommend you ringing them to find this information out asap.

Lisa, are you absolutely sure your insulin is OK? It's unusual for this to happen if you don't actually feel ill (apart from the high levels) - have you tried using a new cartridge/pen? If you can't get blood ketone strips you should be able to get urine strips over the counter - they are called Ketostix and cost about £5 for 50. Not as good as the blood ones, but better than nothing.

I've tryed new pen all work fine , my partner has been to 4 chemists apparently not enough demand for them to stock the strips !
