And can certain types off insulin work for some and not others thanks ...

Hi and welcome to the forum. Someone will be along soon who can answer your questions. I'm new to this so no help at all.

I'm not on any medication at the moment so I have no idea about insulin. Type 2's usually start on tablets first.

Hi Christopher - so you're only fairly recently diagnosed?

Or in fact are you a Type 2 diabetic who has only been on insulin for 12 months? What type of insulin are you one? because the answers will depend on both these things, plus a number of other ones, depending on which!

Hi Christopher and welcome to the forum. I personally find that a lot of caffeine makes my blood glucose rise, so I mainly drink decaf. In answer to some of your earlier questions, there's no reason why insulin should make you put on weight, if you don't eat more than you need, and calculate your insulin carefully. Have you been taught to carb count?
Somewhere in the general message board, there was a recent discussion on whether people needed to take their insulin in advance of, just before, or during a meal. The answers varied quite a lot! It's a question of finding out by trial and error what's right for you.
Keep asking questions, we'll try and answer them.

Hi Christopher and welcome to this wonderful forum!
Sorry to hear you're having a tough time at the moment.
As has already been said, there's no reason that taking insulin should make you gain weight as long as you are calculating things properly.
Has carb counting been taught to you? And have you been offered an education course by your diabetic team? If not it is well worth asking about this, and also seeing a dietician to discuss diet etc.
I'm fairly new to insulin, about 3 months now. I take it 10-15 minutes before I eat, and this works well for me, although if in eating out, I take the insulin as the food arrives.
The best advice I can give you, is to keep a food and insulin diary so you can see what affects you in what way. It's all a bit of trial and error! But we're all learning together x

I will try the diary and write everything in it i can its hard getting into a routine so it is . And will try tomorrow and start taking before i eat havent been told about carb counting yet have to wait and hear about it yet and see what its all about its quite a waiting list so it is to get onto the course we all learning everyday

LOL Chris - yes we do know how frustrating it is - that's why we all joined a diabetes forum in the first place!

I was going to ask about the carb counting course - but that's been covered now. Thing is - I drink coffee all day. Normal Nescafe instant stuff, normally caffeinated - and it seems to have no effect whatsoever on my BG. I also drink 'real' stuff (either filer or espresso machine) from cafes when we're out and about, and these occasional cups also have no effect. However I don't know if I drank the real stuff all day, might have an effect or not, since I've never done it. BUT - none of us can know what effect it will have on you - because we ARE all different !
