A week and a half ago I had a big back tooth out. It was ok for a couple of days but then the pain was terrible. I went back to dentist and he said I had dry socket. He gave me erithromycin, but only 3 days worth. Anyone had this. I am nearly banging my head on the wall.

Aargh, sorry to hear that Spiritfree. Never had dry socket myself but my goddaughter had it after she had a wisdom tooth removed and she suffered horribly with it for a little while. If it doesn't settle you should go back, she eventually had a moist dressing put in the socket and that helped her a lot, and it healed quite quickly after that. I hope it settles down for you very quickly 😱

You have my complete and utter sympathy Spirit.
Do you have an emergency dentist in your area? The NHS are supposed to provide them. You need strong pain meds plus special dressing put on it and certain antibiotics to cover all eventualities.

I so sympathise Spirit having had dry socket 3 times over the years. It's as bad or worse than toothache and last time it happened (last year) I had to go back to my dentist several times. I got anti biottics and had it packed with a really calming dressing to cover the exposed hole which didn't close for ages Hope you're soon pain free x

Any kind of pain is not good. I hope it settles down and is on the mend for you real soon. Do go back to the dentist for help. Are you able to take anything like Paracetemol or ibuprofen? They might help ease the pain. Some folks find rinsing round with warm salty water helps, but you may need to take advice on that one as it doesn't suit all.

Thank you for your replies. It seems to be a little better today. Maybe the anti biotice are working but 3 days of anti biotics seems strange.

Ooo you poor thing Spiritfree, it's an horrendous pain! I posted on another thread the other day about ending up at a dentist's one Christmas Day with it. It was horrible but settled down within a week once the antibiotics kicked in. I felt like I was just existing between painkillers at that time. Big best wishes that it settles down soon. It seems like a few of us have experienced it. 😡
