Hello! my name is Lauren, I'm new to the forum but I have had type one for 5 years since the age of 15. I have been advised to consult this forum for some advice.
It would seem that I have lost my hypo symptoms. Usually I can tell that I'm hypo because of shaking/sweating but recently I've had no symptoms just a gut feeling telling me to test. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm so worried that I'm becoming less hypo aware and I would appreciate any advice or personal experience. Thank you x

Have you changed insulin recently to a different type? Or had more hypos than usual? Both these can cause a loss of hypo awareness. The usual advice for the latter is to run your levels a little higher for a few days (easier said than done). And obviously test more frequently so you catch lows early.

Hi Lauren and welcome to the forum. How has your control been? Running tighter control which should be a good thing but with the inevitable hypos can lead to loss of awareness. Sometimes you can't win with diabetes. :( However, as far as I know loss of hypo awareness would be quite unusual after 5 years. My loss of hypo awareness occurred at about 25 years. My consultant told me to try and run my levels higher - 8-12 mmol/l. Of course it's not that easy to do. 🙄 I tried my best but it didn't seem to make much difference to me. My DSN said for me the awareness may not come back.

It may be worth trying to run your levels higher for a while to see if it makes a difference. Good luck. 🙂

Welcome Lauren, sorry to hear you are loosing your hypo awareness. I have that trouble sometimes in the night and know exactly what you mean when you say you just have a gut feeling. Have you been advised to try running your blood sugars a big higher for a week or two? If you can do that, you may well find your hypo awareness improving.
