Since starting on higher doses of meds the other week they have played havoc with my taste buds im getting a metallic taste of the pills, thing is ive been on them for ages and it was just a case of the dosage on both being upped.

Can anyone suggest anything i can suck on or drink that will take the taste away if even just for an hour, ive been chewing on gum like a women possessed but its doing nothing. Its really bugging me now because the enjoyment of eating and the flavours are being ruined.
I'd be most greatful for any help

p.s if this is in the wrong section please feel free to move it admin/mods

I think a lot of people get a metallic taste with some medications Steff, perhaps it has to be at a certain dosage before it becomes noticeable? I used to have it with simvastatin when they increased me from 20 to 40mg. If it's really bothering you (and I know these things can!) then perhaps a word with the doc is in order to see if anything can be done.

Hmm, not much help then - hopefully someone else will have a solution. What's the betting it's chocolate, just to taunt you as a diabetic? 😱

All I can think of is sugar free mints/chewing gum or for something stronger...... Fishermans friend !!!!! as I remember, they have quite a strong taste to them. Hope you find something that works steff. Sheena

Trebor extra strong mints 😉

I sometimes get a metalic taste in my mouth from the Byetta and I've found the only thing that works is mouthwash. XXXXX

it is a known side efect from the anti d you are on hunnie. it will go.

Hi Steff

I had a metalic taste in my mouth for ages and it turned out to be anemia (B12 deficiency) - I think it can be caused by all sorts of medication and conditions.

My Doctor gives me Corsodyl mouth wash on prescription every month which seems to really help 🙂

Hope you feel better soon.

Take care

Andy 🙂

Steff although I'm not diabetic I take other medication and know that horrible metallic taste which can affect me really badly particularly when I'm feeling very anxious or stressed out completely. I can't get away from it when it flares up but think it is the meds I take plus I seem to be extra sensitive to strong smells ie cinnamon even though I don't eat it myself even cooking with cinnamon or chilli can set the horrible sensation off.

Hope you can find something to help, I keep applying Shea lip balm to ease the pain although the taste is still there

Thanks Andy and pippen good tip of lip balm, ive got myself some fishermans freinds and they seem to have helped a tad

Update
