Help needed for my Granny

She has been eating whatever she has been bought and unfortunately pork pies, meat pies etc are not the best and your right the odd battered fish is ok, but it has not been the odd and I'm might sound horrible but I'm trying to get her and the rest of the family to get her to eat good most of the time. I don't want her to go to an early grave :(

I think this is the problem with people of an older generation - diets have changed so much but we tend to want to eat what we were used to when we were younger. When I was little I used to queue with my sister on a Saturday morning for a Brayshaws pork pie. The pies were sold hot and the queue stretched all the way down the street. They were extremely popular then, but you wouldn't see that nowadays - it was more the food of my mother's (and your granny's) generation.

I think you're doing a fine job taking charge and trying to get granny to try new things, or maybe old things in a healthier style. Perhaps she could make a list of things she likes and then look for healthier, tasty alternatives that she could try?

Much as i hate them - ready made meals may be an option for your granny when she wants to indulge in her favourite fish and chip meal etc..The bonus being if you get low fat, its healthier and it tells you the carbs on the packet! I sometimes give them to Alex - the weight watchers ones - when i am feeling tired and he is hungry! ( not often - but its our treat). Bev

Good morning guys

Thanks for your kind words again. The family got together last night to talk about solutions for Granny.

Like minds think alike - we decided on the internet shopping for her and a mixture of ready made meals as well as me making portions for her from what I cook- being diabetic I watch what I eat, but have lots of tasty food so hopefully she will enjoy this.

Granny is riddled with Arthritis and is not very mobile and cannot really cook.

So fingers crossed and thanks everyone x

Good news re Granny & Weight Watchers meals for children?

Dizzy - good news about prospects for your Granny.

Bev - I think it's worth asking a dietician about Weight Watchers meals for a 10 year old. I have a feeling that low fat meals are not particularly recommended for growing children, and normal ready meals might be more suitable.

Dizzy, Does granny receive attendance allowance? If not please get the forms and get someone from age concern or CAB to fill it in for her.
This will give her extra income which is tax free and non means tested.

Hi Copepod,
I am a bit confused as to why a weight watchers meal wouldnt be good for a 10 year old? Do you mean its not nutritious enough or not filling enough? Also, he probably only has one about every fortnight -they are not always weight watchers - sometimes they are just asda healthy options etc. But i would be interested to know if they are 'bad' for him - perhaps i will ask his DN when we go on monday. Thanks. Bev

Hi Sue, Not sure what Granny receives will look into it and get sorted what she needs.

Thanks 🙂
