Disappointing about not getting white eggs from the "leghorn". I had some exchequer leghorns (black and white speckled chickens) about 8 years ago and they laid pristine white eggs. Sadly I lost them to someone's dog. I got a replacement 2 years ago and her eggs are a very disappointing cream and she is a poor layer and doesn't have the personality of my previous leghorns.
It sounds like you have a lovely mixed flock though even if you don't get a white egg. I have never had warrens but I know they are wonderfully friendly and curious. Mine get leftovers but sardines have not featured in their list of treats yet!
Sardines help for when they are going through moult, not as a regular treat xx

Toni, I think you are doing the right thing. Low carb diet took me from a very high hba1c score to something far smaller (like 40% smaller last time it was checked and will be considerably lower next time as it has a 3 month time lag before it picks up changes). Getting a meter and testing is definitely key as almost all here will attest. As for the insulin thing, I've just come off it yesterday, they gave me it as I'd been checked into hospital as an emergency case. So I've gone from really bad and needing insulin, to no insulin in around 12 weeks on the low carb diet. Which suggests to me that even if they don't give you insulin and the like, you can make an impact yourself by going low carb.

Good luck with your fight! test test test! 🙄
