I think it’s important to remember that posting on forums is an imperfect form of interaction and exchange. It is a bit like having a conversation, but also nothing like having a conversation - not least because written exchanges don’t have body language, tone of voice, facial expression, or any of the non-verbal cues that you have access to when face to face.
Some posts that are meant to be encouraging may hit a nerve with other members, because of their past experiences, and perhaps because of other (hurtful) interactions they may have had in connection with the same topic.
We are a supportive community, and it’s important that people feel free to share their own views and experiences authentically, but also we have to be aware that people may be carrying burdens and sensitivities that mean our posts may not be received in the way we intended.
There is no place on the forum for any blame or stigma surrounding the development of complications. The best we can ever try to do is to reduce our own risk, and try to support others to do the same. So I suppose in a sense reduction of complication risk is a motivation for all of us. But there are never any guarantees, and diabetes rarely plays entirely fairly. Sometimes complications just happen despite excellent diabetes management. It is incredibly unfair, and anyone affected deserves our full support.
