Help,I am hungry.

Well, I don't know where to start, BUT , I must thank you all for the wonderful supportive replies!!!!!! Xxxx . This is what this forum is all about!!!!
I had my B12 yesterday afternoon and although the nurse asked 'how was I ? ' she knew and I knew that she really was not remotely interested. Jab in arm, job done!
Just had lunch after the joys of Tesco. Last night's other steak chopped , with tomatoes and mayo with horseradish. I like things like that. .....today it's enough, I am not so cold, vest under my jumper ,pop socks on, weather a bit milder. Anything to do with the B12?????? No idea, but with the support here I shall do my thing.
Xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Constantly being cold was my major symptom that my thyroid was not working as it should do. If you feel the cold, even when others don't, it would make sense to have your thyroid checked out. Initially, it's a simple blood test.

Low functioning thyroid is very common, unfortunately.

I feel for you @EMcKT about being cold. After losing so much weight pre-diagnosis I get cold easily, especially my legs and feet, which then suffer from cramps and pin and needles. Living in bed socks and leggings with pj's at night. So not glamorous but at least I can get a good night's rest.
Foodwise, I don't like salad much in winter. Always have a couple of stir fry veg packs in the freezer. Instant stockpot and seasoning with stir fry veg is ready to eat in less than 10 minutes.
It's fine to vent when you are having a rough day. Living with diabetes is not always easy.

One thing I remember from the first week of Thyroxine supplement was the feeling of warmth in my hands and feet - and that was a very long time ago now.
I cooked a 16 oz steak from Lidl last night - we have half each. It is really good quality and the cost isn't high - it is around £12 per Kg, the pack is under £6 and although there are slightly cheaper options the quality is higher.

Thats pretty much me right now!
I prefer being on the colder side as a rule but this is verging on uncomfortable and getting expensive having the heating on all the time.
Will check if thyroid is included in my bloods next week.

Brrrr!

@Quill when I had a blood test for my annual review they checked thyroid although not B12. It was only 5 months after diagnosis. My thyroid was OK. I hadnt asked for it to be checked but my late Mum had throid problems. I suggest you ask surgery to check its easy to add as a test and asked you have possible sympt9ms a good idea.

It's horrid!

When I was untreated, and inadequately treated, I used to sit with a hot water bottle every evening because it was the only way I could find comfort. My temperature dis-regulation was worst after lunchtime. I'd also be wearing sweaters in the Tropics, which brought more than the occasional stare.

The diagnostic level for hypothyroidism is a TSH over 10, but the harsh reality is anything over about 3 signals it is struggling a bit.

I’m usually too warm so this is a proper shock to the system!
I’ve asked the surgery if they can check Thyroid next Thursday so fingers crossed they do, it’s just my HbA1c all on its own otherwise.

It's a cheap test, Quill. If they refuse, then Monitor My Health do a more comprehensive test from £32.

Monitor My Health is actually the NHS lab at Exeter, utilising slack periods to run the tests. Very reliable, and not the usual push-back from GPs that private tests aren't done to NHS standards.

Edited to add the forgotten link: https://monitormyhealth.org.uk/our-tests

Ooh noted! Thank you lovely 🙂

@Quill the thyroid can fail and recover many times before finally subsiding - I was checked many times as I was showing so many symptoms, but then I think they gave up on the idea. My TSH levels were 5000 times the normal when I begged for another test.
The GP tested my cardio vascular system by starting our meeting with 'there is something seriously wrong' - even though I had suggested thyroid problems for several years.
In the time after diagnosis when my doses were being increased I had some really vivid dreams, also nightmares that continued after I had woken up - only for a few seconds but they were very vivid. The only thing I can liken them to are visualisations of descriptions of angels given in ancient writings. I would have appreciated a warning about the possibility.

Have something else then? Can’t tell you when I last had a salad, not a fan. There’s no requirement for diabetics to eat salad or even to eat low carb unless they want to.

If more carbs makes you feel better then eat more carbs than you are now

Unless you’re eating more calories than you need overall then it won’t be fat you’ve gained, just a bit of water. Carbs don’t make you fat unless you’re eating more energy overall than you use up.
Carbs are the problem, you cannot simply eat more of them as they contain the sugars that cause higher numbers. It is possible to eat a low calorie low carb diet.
