There’s lots of info on the Diabetes UK website about diet, including recipes etc. if your GP is dismissive, I’d ask to see a different one, or a diabetes specialist nurse. As others have said, there can be serious consequences with untreated diabetes and the impact on his internal organs may not show up until later. Yes, cholesterol levels are important too, and its Often suggested that people with diabetes have lower levels. Many are prescribed Statins to achieve this, but that’s a whole other subject!

Hi @Buttercup1988

The dizzyness you describe sounds to me like Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo which I had recently, rather than anything to do with his diabetes. The Doctor gave me some exercises to do at home and so far (touch wood) I have had no repeat of the problem. The exercises (Brandt-Daroff) are well described in this link https://www.nwangliaft.nhs.uk/_resources/assets/attachment/full/0/9866.pdf I was also given tablets for nausea, but I didn't take them as I didn't feel that nauseous. Might be worth checking the link as September is a long time to wait for an ENT appointment and the exercises may help meantime.

Having read the whole thread I do concur that a low carb diet may help your hubby towards better numbers, but I agree with Inka, it may be that he's a late onset T1 or LADA (T1.5) as it's known. It's worth asking for the tests - CPeptide and GAD antibodies.
