Help, emergency Levemir dose

B
Have you contacted the pump company? I was told that Ypsomed will get a new pump to you within 24 hours if you're in Europe.
Yes, But only if you know where you will be. Unfortunately we do not seem to be able to get any information from our travel Insurance as to where we will be when.

I have now obtained "permission " to inject as and when I like without asking and am feeling far more comfortable with things.

Once again I thank you all for your help. Soon as the phone as recharged, I'll highlight some of the things that I can now see the bizarre and amusing side of.

Wow @PattiEvans your illness and subsequent treatment sounds horrendous. An anniversary you will remember for all the wrong reasons. Hope the insurance company get your repatriation sorted soon so you can recuperate at home. Sending hugs and keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Ah, right, now understand what's wrong with the pump! ("User Error" for which the instant cure was usually "Press Any Key to Continue" ISTR ......)

It really still is essential to keep that sense of humour intact, isn't it, mate!!! {{{Hugs}}}

Yes, more so with user error. Who can I blame, me? Oh great o_O

Thanks for the updates @PattiEvans
Glad that they are now letting you manage your insulin and that things are a bit more settled. I hope that the repatriation gets sorted soon.

Things move slowly. At lunchtime I received a phone call from a lovely lady at Ypsomed. They are happy to despatch a replacement pump and ancillaries to hubby's hotel, but again we do not know how long we'll be here. So as I've settled on injections for the time being I've said I'll let them know when we'll be home.

JR Dr this morning intimated that repatriation is all down to a legal situation between the hospital and the travel insurance. "We have come across these situations before, it is not quick and it will not be tomorrow ". This afternoon a nurse has intimated that it all depends on an Xray tomorrow morning.

Sounds like you’d get enough notice to order the replacement pump then?

I am sure you and your insurers have everything in hand but, just in case, make sure you check with the airline to transport you.
My MIL experienced a DVT (or something like that ... forgive me if the details are wrong) on her outbound flight and needed a doctor's certificate to be allowed on her return flight.

Thanks for the heads up. Deep Vein Thrombosis is not uncommon unfortunately. It's often brought on by sitting for long periods on aircraft. Best to have a little walk (if you can, not so easy though) every so often.

I think our insurers and the Drs here are terrified of putting a foot wrong, hence the extreme caution and I suspect tomorrow's Xray is to ensure (amongst other things) that I have no clots on the lung. I'm pretty certain that they are ensuring all avenues are covered even though they don't tell me a lot. Our Insurance underwriters are Aviva, handled by CEGA group. Well reputed. Whatever my Inclination to take matters in my own hands, and both Julian and myself do, on this occasion I think we have to have faith.

As I said, I am sure you have it all in hand.
The DVT was just an example. It was a heads up to make sure you have all the documentation the airline needs.

MIL turned up at the airport in a wheelchair so she couldn't "pretend" there was no problem.

I hope your x-ray is clear and you are able to get home soon to recover properly and put this all behind you.
And maybe have a second anniversary celebration.

Hope your X-ray goes well and you're on your way home soon x

I think a second anniversary celebration may be in order once you're feeling better.

@PattiEvans what an absolutely awful time you're having. I hope you're home and feeling better soon and that the pump is replaced quickly.

Pfft - getting it replaced is easy peasy BUT deciding how long either Patti or her husband are going to physically be at an address, is not in either of their hands - and they have no control over those who will decide. It is an absolute bummer that you just wouldn't wish on anybody, even if you didn't like them.

Discovered it's a 2u pen. Not used it over a period of 3+ pumps... so I had forgotten and therefore did 4u. I don't have to ring them. Just press the call button. Sometimes they take their time. Fair dos they have other patients

I haven't posted about the hospital stay because I've not had the energy. Long story short we were on a river cruise out of Bordeaux when I was rushed into a cottage hospital with pneumonia on our 40th wedding anniversary. The next day I was airlifted to Bordeaux, by which time I was delirious. I was operated on that afternoon (lung opened and washed out, packed with ABs) and then spent a week in intensive care.

Since then everything that could possibly go wrong has done. Pump is broken.... generally being kept in the dark about repatriation even silly things like a travel bottle breaking . You couldn't write it.

Oh my goodness @PattiEvans - just catching up with your tale of woe. So sorry to hear about what you have ben enduring 😱

Hope you are back in Blighty (with a shiny new pump) ASAP.

Hoping for some good news for you today Patti although I can't imagine travelling when you are ill and have been through what sounds like very serious surgery, will be an attractive prospect but hopefully the means justifies the end. Will you be able to go straight home or need a hospital stay in the UK when you get here?
So pleased you now have full autonomy over your insulin. That must be a relief!
Sending gentle (((HUGS))) and wishing you a very smooth journey when you get the go ahead.
