Help! Depression, diabetes high glucose.

Hi I’m new to type 1 diabetes, just joined this forum and everyone is absolutely brilliant with tips and advice. Like you I suffer with anxiety and depression, hospital did tell me anxiety can make your glucose high. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, they are all here to help
Thank you. I appreciate your empathy very much. I confirmed with my doctor that's stressing anxiety and raise glucose. But as you likely know. You can have a lot of anxiety and have no reason for it. In exists by itself. With no need for outside worries to cause it. I want to go and make a broccoli and avocado and blueberry smoothie with yogurt. But have to wait for the will to do that too hopefully arrive. Thanks again. All my best.

I use the microwave a lot. I also have a small airfryer but don't use it as much. How easily can you shop? Do you have somewhere to store food? Do you have a freezer? Are you living outside of the uk? I often don't feel like cooking but I can go to a local cafe or visit my sister. I have options in my fridge so I pick something I fancy to eat and want to cook/ heat up. I like mushroom omlette but eggs go with all veg. I used to like tortilla [ from spain] you add potato and onion but I rarely eat potatoes now. Do you have family or neighbours who understand your food needs and would share soup or a stew? If you haven't got high cholestral you could have bacon mushroom tomato and egg. Or if your budget stretches a small piece of steak. I cook bacon in the microwave by folding it inside kitchen paper and checking after a minute. You could do it in your airfryer. I cook fish in the microwave too and veg. I always have some smoked salmon from a supermarket. I like thin slices. It keeps well and is nice with eggs or cream cheese. I particularly like salmon. There is a nigella lawson recipe which I have posted before where she poaches it in water [ you could use hot smoked salmon where no need to cook] and serves it with watercress and avocado which she scoops out with a spoon and toasted pumpkin seeds. You could use any salad leaves. Tonight ive had humus with celery sticks cauliflower and a carrot. Would you cope better if you worked out what to eat for the week? Has your doctor suggested a dietician? Are there groups where you can meet and support including a meal is provided? Do keep posting and we will reply.

I just don’t judge or hit with “virtue signalling.” You have had responses from other helpful people on this forum. Hopefully you can gain a personal use regarding your advancement from all advice? Use a meter or CGM if you can, to advance. Anyone reaching out will alway have my best wishes.

I hope you don't think I found any fault in your responses you give excellent advice I was just engaging in discussion. I tend to ramble because I rarely speak to people I am on the internet a lot and use Facebook more as a journal than anything else. I have no idea what virtue signaling is I could Google it but but you know. I rarely ask for advice but do ask when it's important like how to hit a good Chip Shot take care always glad to hear from you thank you again

I know how it is to lack both the will or energy to actually tackle food / kitchen related stuff. So here are a few thoughts.

Just make a habit of buying foods that need minimal preparation, but will still be healthy.
Examples may be frozen prepared veg, including those portioned and in steam bags ready to microwave. Also any ready prepared veg you may like even when raw (perhaps carrot batons). Salad items if you like those
Some healthy items of food you can just take from the fridge, put on a plate and eat (for the really bad days). Maybe cooked chicken portions?

If you are avoiding the dreaded kitchen sink this may help - implement my house rule (which may sound counterproductive, but actually helps).
The rule is this - you do not have to wash up everything
This is very liberating, no need to try avoid the sink because it has more stuff in/around it than you want to wash up. You can freely go to a full sink, wash 1 plate and walk away guilt free!
I found the reality was that while washing a specific item I would also wash 1 or 2 more items while there, then walk away feeling it was a small achievement.
Try it, you may find it helpful 🙂

Hey, it’s great to chew the fat. Never any harm in asking. I’m rooting for you.

Thank you. I will look out for those things. I bought a bag of prewasbed carrots. And choked some down. I think raw carrots are a torture device but will do what's need. I have dishwasher that hasn't been used for a year and now does not work. Can't have repairman as the cardboard boxes make it dangerous for others.
Feeling less guilty is sometimes hard. I get get
Flashes of guilt for past behaviour that was good and helpful. Got car fixed after 9 months. So might go shopping myself inst of us instacart. We will see. I will buy a cobb salad and remove the corn. Thanks again and thanks for le the talk to my mental issues. I have no other outlet. All my best Barry.

What’s the issue with the dishwasher? Problem cycling through the program? Sounds like I’m having a laugh, but I found switching off at the socket then back on can help. Done it with a washing machine with a mind of its own.

Hello,

Well done for reaching g must be very hard for you, but don't give, everyone in this guru are friendly and full of good advice and helped me out too.

Personally who told you 12.4 is high? Do yiu know your stress! anxiety and worry will bump up your sugar levels?

Air fryers are the way forwards, get the liners which cost about £2 for 100, it quick easy and you can try out loads of different foods.

I am not sure about your medication, but like everyone has been mentioned your 3 month blood sugar reads (HBA1C) will show what course if action yourself and your GP need to work together on.
Kerp posting and asking, I do 🙂

hello and welcome to the forum , how about soup some vegetable soups seem ok for diabetes quick n easy to do in the microwave , be careful of the ready meals though if you eat them as some have hidden sugars in that might spike your glucose , what are you like with porridge, that's easy to do in the microwave just don't have a massive bowl full i tend to measure mine as i know what my body can tolerate if i have too much it goes right up so i weigh the oats and add some almond milk .Also frozen berry's and Greek yogurt another option that's easy to do and there's tuna or salmon in a tin have it with some salad as another option . cheeses wont affect your blood its the bread if you have it in a sandwich that converts to sugar .
Your definatly not alone in this !!

welcome to the forum good luck dont be afaid tp reach out to people or ask questions nothing to small or to silly. I post about both my diabeties and my mental health they are a great group of people on here they even supported me when i recently went into a mental health unit for a few days
good luck

Please don't torture yourself, you need to enjoy your food. Do you prefer cooked carrots? If so you can ding them in the microwave in about 3 minutes (time depends on microwave and amount of carrot) - simply pop the prepared carrot in a pyrex jug with just enough water to half cover them and a tiny bit of salt (remember it's a small bit of water, not a saucepanful). Ding on full power for approx 3 mins. Make sure the jug is big enough cos it can boil over as I found out lol.
If you like broccoli that cooks even faster in the microwave than carrot.
oh yeah .. remember pyrex (if using that) does not like a sudden shift between hot and cold. I was below par the other week and without thinking ran cold water into the empty hot pyrex jug - result ... me stood holding the handle, with the remainder of the jug in the sink 😳

Other 'pull out of the fridge' items to nibble when you can't face cooking include tomatoes, cucumber, and bell peppers (I remove seeds from bell peppers). But only if you like those items - self torture is overrated. All those bits could go with some ready cooked chicken portions for a reasonably healthy snack/meal.
