Relationship to Diabetes
At risk of diabetes
I am interested in eating a better diet have lost a stone in weight and reduced blood sugar level which is still in pre diabetic range. Is there an ideal daily carb amount to aim for? Need to loose another half stone and hopefully reach normal level

Welcome @Melanie64 🙂 Anything below 130g per day counts as low carb. Some people need to eat less than that. It’s quite individual. Do you know how many carbs a day you’re eating roughly?

As you are just prediabetic but still want to lose some more weight then a low carb diet should enable you to get your blood glucose down to Normal and also achieve the weight loss.
But there is no need to do any thing drastic and a gradual reduction in carbohydrates would be better as you will be less likely to get issues with your eyes of nerves. Even though you are only prediabetic it could happen with a sudden reduction in blood glucose.

Also the Learning Zone here has information.

You've lost a stone thus far. Keep doing what you're doing.
If you've been getting more exercise as part of your weight loss plan, you've probably gained some muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat, so don't worry if your weight loss seems to be slowing down.

The ideal amount of carbs would be that at which your weight reduces a modest amount each week, so when you get to your ideal weight you can then up the carbs just a little and maintain.
Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution describes the process in some detail, and has a lot more useful information. They used to be available for pennies, but that was some time ago now.
