Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
I am new here....I have had Type 1 Diabetes for the last 50 years, when it was far simpler to control with none of the gadgets that are available now! and 81years young.
Live alone with my two dogs, Reice who is a German Shepherd x aged 16 and Bella a Shis-Tzu who is 11years.

I look forward to continuing here and like to chat, if anyone is interested also?

Thanks for reading! Sirch

Welcome to the forum. a huge variety of people on here with a range of diabetes type and additional medical issues from those newly diagnosed to 'old' hats like yourself. Everybody is very friendly and always willing to offer suggestions to anybody struggling.
It is always interesting to read how people manage their diabetes and people pick up new ideas and words of wisdom from those with many years of experience.
Your German Shepherd is a good age, I expect they keep you busy and are good company for you.

Ah yes it was simpler indeed - one jab of 80u/ml Ultralente a day, test my wee in a morning, be very surprised indeed if the result was anything other than bright orange, and once a year try to be a bit good for 6 ish weeks before they did my glycosulated haemoglobin blood test, but that was midsummer anyway so I'd been eating a lot more salad and cutting down on Druckers cream cakes and chocolate to make sure I could get in my bikini so as not to frighten anyone on the beach and be unsurprised when the result was 8-ish.

I somehow think as well as being older I'm a bit wiser these days, but the jury's out on the latter!

No way would I ever swap and go back to that - unless my actual youth could be restored along with it .......

Hi and welcome to the forum 🙂

I also like to chat a lot

That's some size difference in breeds xx

Welcome to the forum @Sirch

Well done for clocking up your 50 years - did you get your Nabarro Medal from Diabetes UK?

We have quite a few long-term pancreas impersonators on the forum with a similar duration of diabetes to yourself. I’m a relative newcomer with only 30 year’s service so far.

As you say, lots and lots of changes in treatment and options during that time - and the pace of change only seems to be speeding up!

I’m chuckling slightly at the mental image of your dog walks especially if they are anything like my two where one want to go like a rocket, and the other wants to potter along at a snail’s pace giving everything 101 sniffs
