Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi

I have type 2 diabetes which is not well controlled but is improving.

Currently on 1mg Ozempic. Was previously on Victoza and before that Metformin but both gave me severe digestion issues. I seem to tolerate Ozempic much better (no nausea) but it has absolutely killed my appetite. I need to lose about 3 stone to get to my target weight and so I suppose the Ozempic will help with that but it has taken the pleasure out of eating almost everything.

I developed macular oedimas last year but below the threshold the NHS uses for treatment and they appear to have improved significantly since the initial diagnosis.

I'm looking forward to participating here.

Welcome, I also take 1mg ozempic. I haven’t had any effects from it though, when you say it’s taken the pleasure out of eating what do you mean? Have you changed the type and quantity of foods you eat alongside it to try and lose weight?

Thanks for your reply. My experience with Ozempic is that it's significantly reduced the amount of food I need to eat to feel full. I think it's a known side effect of the drug but it varies from person to person. Currently I would say that it's halved my portion sizes of solid food. As such it's not a bad thing but it's quite disconcerting.

My GP is about to supplement the Ozempic with glycazide which apparently can lead to weight gain and so I will need to focus on diet properly.

That is exactly what ozempic is supposed to do, to reduce your appetite to help you with your dieting, so you should be eating small portions with it. They can still be meals that you enjoy though, so long as those are balanced meals and okay for your blood sugars.

Sounds like the Ozempic could really help you with your weight loss goals. Hopefully you can find some smaller meals that you enjoy the flavour and experience of.

Do you know why your Dr is planning to add Gliclazide into the mix? Do you know what your BG levels have been like?

Overall very poor bg levels but rapidly improving. The glycazide is being added because the ozempic isn't quite enough. I'm hoping that dietary improvements will mean that I don't need both medications in due course. On the basis that my appetite is radically reduced, I'm hoping that the diet I'm about to start will bring my weight down quite quickly. It should certainly make dieting easier I think.
