I just thought I would introduce myself.I have had Type 1 for 6 years (September 2015) and use the libre 2

Welcome!

T2 here.

How’s everything with you?
Was there anything specifically bothering you which made you seek the forum out this evening?

Thank you! And theres nothing I just though I would join this forum to help out people newly diagnosed and as I don’t know any other diabetics

Hi from another T2. Welcome to the forum.

Personally, I think this forum is a great place. A great mix of personalities, experience, knowledge, understanding, etc. So incredibly helpful and useful and for me, a life line.

Hi and welcome from me too.

I'm just 2.5 years down the line with Type 1 but would have been lost without this forum. I hope you benefit from being here as well as others hopefully benefitting from your experience/contribution.

Which insulins are you on?
How do you find the Libre 2 compared to the original or have you only ever used Libre 2? I'm still on the original and a few people here have had reliability issues with the Mark 2 model, so I am a bit apprehensive about being upgraded.

If you are interested in getting to know some of us regulars a bit better, I can recommend the "Group 7-day waking average" thread in the General Forum. We no longer post averages, just log in each day with our waking reading and exchange a bit of chat and banter or have a moan about the frustration and fickleness of our diabetes occasionally or celebrate our successes. It's a bit of a virtual diabetes coffee morning, but we chat about plenty of other stuff too. Would be lovely to see you there if you fancy it.... https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/threads/group-7-day-waking-average.20148/page-4040#post-1123002
Don't try to read it through from the start, just jump in with your waking reading and you will soon get the hang of it. Maybe see you there later?

Welcome to the forum @Lily123 . Good to have you on here.

If you would like to let us know more about how you manage your diabetes that would be great.
Which insulins are you using?
Are you using Multiple Daily Injections or a pump?

I look forward to hearing more from you.

Thanks and the insulins that I am on are Novorapid and Tresiba

I will definately join that thread! And I have only ever had the Libre 2 as I’m on a trial to see if it works well for me and I’m on multiple daily injections

How do you find the Tresiba. Have you always been on that? Do you need to eat biscuits at bedtime to balance it?
Novo wasn't so "Rapid" for me so I am now using Fiasp, which isn't much quicker but margin improvement. Sometimes it would be nice to just eat a meal without having to wait an age for my insulin to kick in!
On the whole though, I know I am very lucky to live in a country where I am provided with insulin (and have a choice of modern options) and Libre free of charge and I do very much appreciate that.

I have only been on Tresiba a few months and I can’t remember what insulin I was on before that but I have always been on Novorapid and I find that it works quickly for me.So is the length of time insulin takes to work different for everyone then?

Yep but it's rather a variance in how quickly it actually 'gets itself going' than how long it lasts. Been on Novorapid since 1998 myself - originally MDI and now pumping using it. It lasts between 4 - 4.5 hrs in total and used to kick in within 10-15 minutes reliably (and I had the hypos to prove that) but as I age, it doesn't seem to start as quickly although probably not much longer than 30/40 minutes in truth, just seems a lot longer!

With some folk, times of day affect this too eg longer at breakfast than rest of the day, ladies 'time of the month', or indeed any of the 40+ 'normal' reasons BG may vary anyway!

Welcome to the forum @Lily123

Good to have you as part of the community. 🙂

Having the ‘hive mind’ of the forum to call on is a great help. Whether it’s a question, a quandary, a frustration, or simply the need to vent and let off steam - it’s great to have others alongside who instinctively ‘get it’.

I think of this question every time when I see the Diabetes team but always forget to ask. What does HbA1c stand for?

Hb is the Haemoglobin
A1c is the glycated fraction

I think

Ah I had always wondered about that
