Hi. Newly diagnosed Type 2 today. I’m a bit scared and unsure of what it means and what comes next. I know I need to lose weight and I’m going to really get on that next week. I’ve got to have a check on my feet. And start medication. I’m 37. This all started after my first COVID injection. I’m also signed off with depression so it’s been really rough recently.

Would really love to make some new friends and have someone my age to talk too about this condition.

HI @Kymmiek84 and welcome to the forum 🙂 I'm afraid I can't pretend to be your age, although I wish I was! But there are lots of younger members here.

Thanks to advice from this forum I've managed to lose over 4.5 stone, done by lots of walking and cutting out/down carbs. It's not just sugars which are the culprits, it's also taters, bread, rice, pasta etc. When you are first diagnosed it doesn't do a lot for your mental health, so any depression will probably be exacerbated by diagnosis.

On the plus side, I feel healthier than I have for years, so hopefully you will too soon. No question is considered silly here, so fire away with anything you need help with 🙂

Welcome @Kymmiek84 🙂 I’m Type 1 but there are lots of helpful Type 2s here who can put your mind at rest hopefully. You’re not alone. X

I’m fairly similar age at 33 but I have had T2 diabetes for 13 years now, with a year or so of trying all the pills and many years since taking insulin. It’s a lot to get your head around at first but you’ll feel more like you know what you’re doing soon enough.

Hi Kymmiek84,

Welcome to the forum. It's great to hear that you're off to a good start and have an understanding of what is needed along this journey.

Feeling depressed is a challenge in and of itself so do be gentle with yourself as things can improve with the right support.

One thing you might want to think about is testing you blood sugar at home. That will give you an idea of the impact your meals are having on you so you can make informed decisions.

You can read more about that here https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/managing-your-diabetes/hba1c

Welcome to the forum @Kymmiek84 .
Glad that you have found us.

It is worth having a look around the forum and also in the Learning Zone (which may be a tab at the top of the page or accessible in the menu …) . There is a lot to take in but there is plenty of experience to tap into on this site. Fire away with any questions that you have.
