Type 2
I am new to all of this and unsure what to do.
I was diagnosed with type 2 just 4 weeks ago and am still finding my feet.

Hi @maryanne and welcome to the forum. Unless you are in dire straights I suggest you read around the forum and find your feet at a pace that suits you. Above all ask questions, no question is considered silly on here.

How did you come to be diagnosed and did you get your HbA1c result?

Hi @maryanne and welcome from me as well

HI Docb, Thank you for replying. I have an annual blood test as I have an under active thyroid. Lots more blood tests were taken and I was found to have type 2 diabetes

Please ask your surgery for the result. There's a big difference in what you need to do if you're only just into the diabetes zone (over 48) or, like I was, well into it (114).
Thank you for the advice I shall have to contact my surgery

Hi maryanne, welcome to the forum.

As kindly advised above, it's important to know your HbA1c number which is the result of your blood test based on a 3month average. You can test at home which will give you a good idea of how your meals are impacting your blood sugar levels. You can find out more here https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/managing-your-diabetes/testing.

Knowing what to eat can also be a big challenge so do have a look at this page for assistance https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/enjoy-food/eating-with-diabetes.

We've got a wealth of info on the forum so do have a good look around and let us know if we can help with anything.
