Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
New member here - just posting to say Hello to all. Have been Type II for quite a few years now, but lately seem to be having a few problems so maybe I'll be able to make some good changes and get some information and advice to improve.

Hi @DoubleMM and welcome to the forum. Only one thing to say.... ask away!

Welcome to the forum @DoubleMM

Glad you have found us!

Sometimes after living with a long term condition for a while it can be good to take stock, and reflect. And sometimes to shake things up a bit and maybe try some new strategies and techniques - especially if your diabetes has begun to misbehave and your usual go-to methods aren’t producing the results you would suspect!

So ask away with any questions, or simply rant at the fickle and frustrating nature of diabetes - we have literally centuries of lived experience on the forum, and folks here will instinctively ‘get it’ 🙂

Thanks all. I'm taking time to read many of the posts on here to familiarise myself with the site etc. At my last diabetic nurse appt. all was 'well' - I got a 'gold star' for my HBA1c results - which I cannot recall. Have to say that I was surprised by that as I didn't think I had been eating particularly well what with lockdown etc., and was expecting the worst. So - that would have been in the later part of last year and my readings were quite 'good' for me and always in single figures. However, since then - although my eating habits haven't changed much - and given that we had Xmas etc., in between, my readings now are often in double figures. I accept that my diet is not good - and I should know better - but I cannot understand why they have risen so much when my eating habits haven't really changed. Am thinking to try a little 'low carbing' to see if I can bring my readings down - and am about to arrange for an appt with the diabetic nurse for a med review.

Hello and welcome to the forum @DoubleMM 🙂

Am thinking to try a little 'low carbing' to see if I can bring my readings down - and am about to arrange for an appt with the diabetic nurse for a med review.

Let us know how it goes if you try a little carb reduction - many members here find it is vital to keep carbs intake balanced with both your current meds and what your metabolism can cope with.

Hope the review with your nurse goes well.

Had a review with the Diabetic Nurse - my HBA1C had gone from the 50's up to the 70's. - since my last review. We had a long conversation - she upped my insulin to 22 units - I have been behaving myself this last couple of weeks - and my readings have gone down to approx max of 8.8. A further review and Nurse was well pleased - and finished up by saying "now - don't forget to have carbs at every meal" !!

Since you are taking insulin, having some carbohydrate is important - but it needs to balance with what your body needs and how you respond to it 🙂
