Hello everyone, newbie to the forum but not to diabetes sadly!

I was diagnosed back in 2015 with T2, currently taking Metformin. Was doing relatively well keeping things in chek until the dreaded lockdown hit and i'll be honest, I have let myself go big time so I have joined to hopefully get some inspiration to keep me going.

Just feeling very low at the moment so struggling to do what I know I should be doing - and it is reflecting in my levels - which are creeping up now into double figures :( even so, I have no motivation and am struggling to do the right thing so any advice......or just a big fat kick up the backside would be very much appreciated 🙂

Hi @Just.Brew.It and welcome to the forum.

Glad you know what to do, most people diagnosed back then didn't/don't. Even many newly diagnosed are still given that harmful advice not to test their BG and to eat carbs at every meal. So consider yourself one of the lucky ones.

Thanks for the welcome

To be honest most of my knowledge comes from this forum, I was very panicked when I was first diagnosed back then so came straight to the internet for advice (like you do!) and used this forum, although I never signed up back then, it was invaluable for me and I took lots of helpful adcvice from here.

The GP gave me the standard advice as you say - the example of the divided up plate 🙄 They still give that advice now and they still advise not to self test but I do it anyway

Welcome to the forum @Just.Brew.It

Well done for de-lurking, and glad the forum has been helpful to you so far.

Yes lockdown has been a challenge for many members in different ways.

Signing up is a great step, and some members have decided to share their progress either with weight loss or with meal plans like this

or this

As it helped keep them motivated, and in a sense made them accountable.

Hope you find the forum continues to offer you support and encouragement

Thank you for this

I am definitely lacking motivation at the moment and am in need of losing some weight so those links are very useful....hopefully they will give me the kick up the bum that I need to get back on track.

If I were to start a similar type of diary for myself, would it be best to post it in the general section?

Thank you again!

Either ’general’ ‘weight loss’ or ‘food and carbs’ seem to be the places people opt for (or the exercise section if it’s more about increasing activity).

Speaking of which... if you’d like extra help and support with increasing your levels of exercise/activity you might want to sign up to the ‘live well move more’ programme

🙂
