Hi everyone, I've been a lurker for a while but this is my first post.
I'm Michelle, nice to meet you all. So I was told I was prediabetic back in 2018 with hb1ac of 45, managed to reduce this to 42 after 3 months with exercise and eating low Carb high fat.... And then let everything slide .... Anyway moving on to 2 years later. Checked my sugars periodically and were always between 6 and 8, never really any higher than that. Mid November Covid struck, only had mild symptoms compared to others flu, tiredness, aching, breathless etc anyway 2 weeks on I was cleaning around and I started to feel shakey so I tested my bloods 15 no wonder I felt rubbish. This was only last week, decided to eat low Carb and get my hb1ac checked.... Came back the next day 82, I knew it would be higher than last result but shocked it was so high. I have to have it rechecked in at the end of next week but I'm guessing it will still be the same. I moved jobs end of 2019 and I'm mostly sat down most of the day compared to my previous job where I'd easily walk 10,000 steps a day, plus I'm also a chocoholic, anything sweet really.
I know what I need to do, move more and eat far better. I lost 22 pounds last time doing lchf so I know it works. I have lots to lose. Have been testing a couple of times a day and thankfully readings have not been as high as 15, been hovering between 8 and 11.
I know I've not had the official diagnosis yet but thought I would say hello. Looking forward to getting to know you all xx

Hi @Shells2909 and glad you've come out of lurking mode and joined us 🙂 As you already know how to get back on the straight and narrow, I hope we can all give you some support to do just that. It's a great place for positive thoughts and has helped me achieve a healthy BMI and decent hba1c. I couldn't have done it without the immense support from this forum.

Welcome! 🙂

Well after a very confusing phonecall with the gp receptionist I managed to get a printout of my latest bloods. I'm officially part of the type 2 club. Hba1c has reduced slightly at 71 (was 82 a fortnight ago) and I have an appointment with the diabetic nurse tomorrow afternoon.
It's nothing that I wasn't expecting to hear, but still...... Feeling a bit meh!

Anyhow I'm enjoying my lchf way of life, won't be mentioning it tomorrow though and have learnt so much from you all already so thank you for that!

Welcome to the forum @Shells2909 and glad you have delurked 😛

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but hopefully your low carb eating plan will help you gradually reduce your HbA1c.

It’s perfectly natural to feel a bit knocked sideways by a definitive diagnosis, especially if it is something that you’ve been managing to avoid for a while. But there is no point dwelling on the what ifs and might haves - what matters most is what you do now. And it sounds like you are determined to proactively manage your diabetes - which is great. The friendly and supportive members of the forum will be alongside to help you every step of the way.

Great that you are checking your levels too. Have you been using a ‘test review adjust’ framework?

Thank you!
I had my appointment with the diabetic nurse and came away with metformin. She then said due to starting metformin there was no need to test!!!!! Told her I found testing reassuring and it's interesting to see which foods affect my sugars, she eventually gave me a monitor and an acute prescription for a pack of strips. She did fill my prescription exemption form out to be sent off. She's calling me in a month to see how I'm getting on.
I've figured the less they know about lchf the better as they'll only rattle on about cholesterol etc, my level is really good and my qrisk is only 4.
I've been randomly testing upto now, usually 2 hours after lunch and then before bed. Really interesting to see which foods I'm affected by most. My mate made the family a lonely gingerbread house so I tried a bit...... Bm's 2 hours later were 14, safe to say I've not had anymore.

Thank you for the warm welcome, this site is invaluable
Michelle xx
