Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello. I'm Sue and I have type 2 diabetes. After several years of taking Metformin which ruined my sense of taste, I have improved enough to come off medication. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else had the same reaction to Metformin.

Hello @Maronel and welcome to the forum
Very well done on coming off metformin.
Personally I have never experienced any problems with taking it, although I know it often causes people stomach problems, but really good that you don't need to take it any more.

It would be very interesting to hear about the strategy you have you used to get your blood sugars down to the levels where you can do this.
I hope that you find the forum useful if you have a browse around you will see many discussions on various topics going on, and I'm sure your contribution would be welcome on anything that interest you.

Hi Sue and welcome from me too.....

Always good to read a success story if you would like to share yours?
Is there anything particular which brought you to the forum or just wanting the support of others who are in a similar situation and to share your success.... Diabetes is a frustrating condition with quite a few ups and downs, so we are always very happy to congratulate people when they have "Done good!" as well as offer sympathy and advice when things are going less well. I am sure we would all be interested to read more of your story.

Hello and welcome to the forum. 🙂

I used to do storage testing for Lyons, the food and drink people, so I was pretty shattered when everything started to taste strange - particularly tea. which I have not managed to go back to drinking.
I only managed to take Metformin for a few weeks, I reacted very badly to it and the statin I was put on, but it took some time for everything to get back to something like normal.
It makes sticking to a low carb diet very easy.

Welcome to the forum Sue!

Congratulations on the changes you have made and in coming off Metformin (not that there is any problem with people using medication to support their diabetes management - I learned that as a T1 early on!).

Sorry to hear that you had problems with your sense of taste on Meftormin - hope it goes back to normal very soon. Is it mentioned as a side effect in the Patient Information Leaflet in the box?
