Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello, new on here but not newly diagnosed, been living with diabetes for nearly 28 years, originally diagnosed with type1 until a few years ago I took charge of myself and they now say it’s type 2.

Welcome @Nanna D 🙂 That sounds an interesting diabetes history. Were you able to change meds?

It is very unusual for people to switch from T1 to T2.
What prompted this change in diagnosis.
How did you manage your condition when you were T1.
How are you managing as a T2.

I was becoming quite poorly and had lost family through diabetes, decided to sort myself out, lost over 4 stone and was reducing my insulin, on visiting my specialist they did a few tests and came back with misdiagnosis ‍♀️ But I was also told that once on insulin that’s it .

Thanks @Nanna D Its usually the other way round (being diagnosed as Type 2 when actually Type 1) so your history is interesting. Sorry diabetes has affected your family so badly.

Hello @Nanna D .
It is good to have you on the forum.
If you have a browse around you will find a range of topics being discussed, and I hope there will be some things of interest,
Is there anything particular at present that you would like to know more about? If so let us know and we will send you some pointers.

Can you have type1 then not?
I was under the impression it was for life.

Adam.

It sounds like it was some sort of mis-classification initially? Diabetes diagnosis sure can be tricky!

And there seem to be all sorts of sub-types that defy categorisation! Like Northie who was do as T1, but hasn’t needed basal insulin for years 🙂
