I have been self isolating since the start of the lock down on the advice of my employer. I would now like to go back to work (my job is outside and cannot be done from home) and wondered what the advice from Diabetes UK is regarding this for people with Type 2 diabetes like myself?

Thanks

Nigel.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Have you spoken to your employer about your wish to go back to work? This site has the latest recommendations about the virus so it might be worth checking it out then having a discussion with your bosses and see what they say.

Welcome to the forum @Nigel70

The official advice for people with diabetes is to ‘stringently adhere’ to social distancing rules, and that diabetes alone does not require you to fully self isolate.

Diabetes UK are publishing updated advice as it changes on this page

And the official .gov advice is here

As people with diabetes, we are in the ’at increased risk’ group, rather than the ’clinically extremely vulnerable’ group.

So it sounds like your employer was helping you to avoid contact, since you cannot work from home. I suggest having a conversation with them about a possible return to work, and perhaps any steps and measures that could be taken (including temporary redeployment?) that could help to keep you safe.
