Hello - so, I've been diagnosed with diabetes in the last few days. I guess I'm in a bit of a whirl... so many questions, and yet right now I don't feel ready for lots of information. Not only that, but I don't use forums or social media as a rule. But I'm guessing I will be seeking lots of information sometime soon, and probably a few spoonfuls of reassurance, so I thought I'd just bob along here and introduce myself for now, as simple as that. AndersJ, nice to meet you: good to know this is here. (If I don't respond to replies immediately, please don't think I'm being ignorant - I'm probably just not online.) Right, I'm off to go for a walk round the block in the blustery December winds. Cheerio.

Hi and welcome. I don’t do forums either, this is more like a group of friends helping each other out so hopefully you will enjoy being on here. May I suggest you have a look around the site and then I’m sure you will have lots of questions. Feel free to ask anything you like, big or small, serious or daft, we are all happy to help. Enjoy your walk. Sue x

Hi and welcome.
Going for a walk is a great idea as it is an excellent way of lowering the Blood Glucose levels.
I think we all found our Diabetes diagnosis pretty overwhelming at first but it is not something you need to rush, so take your time to come to terms with it. There is a lot of information to assimilate and when your mind is reeling you can't take much of it in anyway.
This forum has been invaluable in helping me to find my way forward with the condition. I hope you find it equally helpful.
We are here to answer any questions you have when you are ready to ask them.

Hello @AndersJ , welcome to forum . I am another one who doesn’t do forums now, though I used to. I find this peer support forum to be friendly and informative, I hope you find the same.
Yes it can take a while to recover from the shock of diagnosis, however fortunately diabetes is a condition that that with the right info and some work by yourself can be managed well, and this is probably going to sound really strange , quite a few have ended up fitter and healthier because of their diagnosis .

Please don’t be afraid of food ok, protein and good fats are fine for us.

I understand that right now the last thing you need is to be overloaded with info as you need a bit of breathing space to recover, when your ready feel free to ask all the questions you need to about diabetes.

That's great. Thanks for all those replies, good to know there's an 'Us'. I am going to have a good wander round the Diabetes UK website over the next weeks. Will be back anon with various daft questions...

There are no daft questions, just people who are too worried about looking/sounding daft to ask them..... don't be one of those!

Ask away. I did and still do. It has all been very helpful guidance.
