Hi Julie
Welcome to the group. I was diagnosed as type 2 about 10 months ago and am still learning. You will get some good advice on here. I think the mantra is test, test and then test some more. It's the only way to find out what works for you.
Keeping the carbs as low as possible is the key. I'm sorry I don't know anything about the Slimming World diet, so I don't know if it's suitable for diabetics.
Hi Julie, welcome 🙂
I was in slimming world when I was diagnosed, thought I was doing the right thing trying to lose weight but after losing a few pounds I just seemed to be stuck and started to feel really ill. I spent a couple of weeks here just lurking in the background and reading as much as I could, soon realised that the all the ‘free food’ in my diet, pasta, rice, potatoes, fruit were all contributing to my problems 😱
I chose to follow the low carb road, cutting out all of the above and only eating Burgen bread, a soy and linseed low carb option, I cut out processed foods and worked out what did and didn’t work for me by testing before and 2 hours after meals, tracking it in a food diary. I am now just over a year in, 4 stone lighter and so much happier with my diet 😛
Remember this is a marathon not a sprint so whatever you choose to do is for life, it has to be sustainable and right for you as we are all different in how we react to food. Also if you go low carb you can eat healthy fats, your body uses these for fuel, egg and bacon, avocado, butter, cream, full fat Greek yoghurt (seriously!!) are all good foods.
So, take some time to read as much as you can, then ask any questions you might have, we are a friendly bunch![]()
I can only advise you to stop following a route which could be - in the end, deadly. It's great to be able to be on here and ask questions. Iv read the keto diet could be good for diabetes, low carb .Yes I eat pasta , potatoes on slimming world all the time.
Thank you for your help. X
Hi Julie, you may well be able to tolerate a few (very few potatoes) but you will only know if you test. I am able to have a couple without really making any difference but then I’m having them with a meal that is veg and meat as well. I cannot get near a weetabix, I think my bg’s raise just looking at the box. Everyone is different, what some can eat, others can’t and once you have discovered what your body allows you to eat and what it can’t, you will find that you quickly don’t miss the foods you never thought you could live without. Just keep asking questions we will all do our best to help and when you look in the fridge and go, there’s nothing I can eat in here remember that we have all done it and on many occasions I continue to do it but we are all ‘getting there’.Thank you for advice , I'll certainly be looking on here for tips . It's things like can i eat potatoes at all and pasta . Or do you stop that completely x
