Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
hiya just been diagnosed with type 1 and came on here to find out from people who have experienced the issues I will have to deal with

Hello @Peter63 Welcome to the forum. You have come to the right place for info from people who live with this condition you will also get lots of cyber support.

Feel free to ask questions about diabetes, we’ll do our best to help.

I trust you a have a supportive diabetic team, it’s important to keep in contact with them in these early stages, they are there to help you. Having T2 myself though I am on insulin I can’t help you too much .

This book has often been recommended on here
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Type-Diabe...irect=true&ref_=as_li_tl&tag=poemforactidi-21
Ignore the title, it’s suitable for all ages, look for the latest edition though as this one is from 2015.

What insulin’s are you on.

Hi Peter - welcome to the club no-one wanted to join!

Been there done that etcetera - but the most important question is the one you didn't ask! So definitely start asking - cos not one of em is daft!

Do get the Ragnar Hanas book but in the meantime - ask, ask, ASK!

BTW - how did you come to be diagnosed?

Hi
Thanks for replies,at. the moment I’m on levimere and nova rapid , like I say it all new and I’m trying not to overload the information coming in.
Just had ultrasound which seems to have come back clear and I’ve appointments up my doolallie at the hospital. Dietician and consultant. Only been six weeks and only went docs cause of weight loss and drinking and going to the loo loads. It all could be worse is my outlook at the moment

Hello and welcome Peter 🙂

It is a steep learning curve taking on the running of your own insulin supply without any previous training. I hope things are starting to settle for you and you're feeling better now you have an insulin supply re- established.

Have you been started on fixed doses of Novorapid with your meals? The pieces do start to fall into their new arrangement and start to feel like a new normal after a while.

There's a wealth of experience and support on here so please let us know how things are going when you have a break from hospital appointments! 🙂

My two favourite insulins there - and a mention of my dad's most un-favourite place - Deolali in India. It was a British Army transit camp during the last War, and drove most people bonkers until they either got posted or sent home. His destination was Meirut, a Days of the Raj hill station - safer and a less fierce temperature. He was a clerk in the Pay Corps and if an army can't keep that bit of itself safe it's a bit of a poor show, eh what? LOL

Anyway - both those insulins are easier to adjust than some other choices. Levemir is very forgiving if you get it a bit wrong - and doesn't hold any nasty surprises.

As TW has said those insulin’s can be used to make a flexible management.
I suspect you will already be feeling a lot better now that you have some insulin again.
Keep in touch and keep asking any questions that you have.
