Hi,
I am concerned for my brother who has diabetes 1, his blood sugar levels dropped below 1 and when I found him it was like he was not aware of who I was and it looked as though he was having a seizure, it scared me so much as I felt so helpless, I managed to eventually dial 999 as I was panicking so much and was scared he was going to die. What I would like to know is if I could get a glucose injection so I could use it on him when needed, any help or suggestions would be great?
 
Hello @Reddc . Welcome to the forum. Omg how frightening that must have been for you. In the heat of the moment and when you are panicking, (which is not only normal, it’s perfectly understandable under those circumstances) it’s very hard initially to be able to function properly, I have personal experience with this but under different circumstances. You did the right thing in calling 999, I trust you brother is fully recovered now? I also hope the person stayed on the phone with you till the ambulance arrived.

It should be possible for your brother to be prescribed this injection. I believe it’s called GLUCAGEN or Glucogon , you and possibly others will need to be shown how to use it.
Their is also a gel called Hypostop which you put on the inside of the cheek , but it is not suitable if the person is unconscious also I am not sure if it is quick enough for such a severe hypo. Others with more experience will be along later.

Finding your brother like that can't have been nice at all. I had a similar experience with my wife about 3 & a half months ago; I woke up in the middle of the night, became aware of the fact she was having a bad hypo and had to call for an ambulance.

Hope your brother is fully recovered now.
 
How old is your brother and is he seen by a hospital team?
 
Thank you all for your helpful replies so glad that I found this website as it feels good that I can come and meet people that are experiencing it or know someone who suffers from it and can best advise me, my brother is a lot better thank god, keeping a close eye on him, thanks again for all your help.
