Hi, so was diagnosed yesterday with type2 and got appointment tomorrow to go over tablets and what I should be doing.

Only day 1 and find myself staring at every food wondering if it’s ok to eat!

I’ve been on the recommended books forum and was thinking of getting the Alan Shanley one?

Hi @WullieP, welcome to the forum 🙂 You can get a good start by reading Maggie Davey's letter, which will explain the general principles and strategy 🙂 Also, highly recommended by many of our readers (and people worldwide!) is Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker. Alan Shanley's book is a collection of articles from his blog over the years, you can get a flavour of it by reading Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S which explains the benefits of self-monitoring and how to do it efficiently and effectively 🙂 There are many more links to good resources in our 'Useful Links' thread, so check that out too 🙂

Any questions or concerns you may have, please ask away - nothing is considered 'daft' so whatever might be confusing or bothering you, just ask and we will be happy to help! 🙂

Hello WullieP
Welcome to forum. When I was diagnosed, I looked at sugar content of food, being non the wiser. I even asked the Sainsbury’s assistant to read sugar on a veggie haggis as my vision was blurry. Wondered when BG rose alarmingly, but the carb content was astronomical. Silly billy. Good luck in getting to grips with information

A lucky type two can go without tablets, just cut right down on all those healthy carbs we are told are so healthy and necessary for us to be healthy.
I used a glucose meter to see what I could eat without getting high readings, and stick to those foods. They are not high carb. What a surprize.

Going back to normal from being fully diabetic is not at all unusual, as there is a terrific number of people beating diabetes thanks to the internet.

Hi WullieP, welcome.

How were you diagnosed - routine testing, or did you have symptoms? If you didn’t have symptoms it’s always a bit of shock, but dinnae fash, there’s loads of help on here from diabetes veterans and newcomers alike. Any worries at all, just ask. That’s how we all learn🙂
