Hello everyone.
I have spent quite a while reading your posts which have helped me so much.
I have been T2 for a few years now, but just lately not doing too well.
Decided I need to try harder!
My problem is when I am tired I eat the wrong things which of course in turn makes me more tired and unwell.
I have now decided to cut my carbs in the hope that this will help me with my readings and help me to make better choices.
I look forward to chatting with you and receiving any advice.

Hi Cinnamon, welcome to the forum 🙂 Knowing where you are going wrong and making that decision to improve things hopefully will put you well on the way to getting things under control 🙂 Let us know how we can help and we will do all we can 🙂

I certainly will, many thanks.

Hi @Cinnamon, welcome. Cutting carbs is one of the best things you can do - it can help lose weight if you need it, and will certainly bring your readings down 🙂 which in turn should make you feel better!

Cakes and biscuits were part of my downfall, but to be honest I really don't fancy them much anymore, and I've found that if I do eat some (sometimes being out means that all you can get is tea & a scone, as we found last week :() it makes me feel a bit icky afterwards....

As Northerner says, let us know if we can help, and my best wishes to you.

Welcome to you Cinnamon. This is a very friendly and helpful forum and we all learn a lot reading the various posts.

Thank you all. I can see you are all very friendly and supportive.
I have already picked up some very helpful tips.
I must say I have been feeling very lost and hopeless and rather low of late, but reading your posts have really bucked me up and I feel much more determined to eat the right foods. I had been told to eat carbs with every meal by my diabetic nurse, you must not cut them out she said. Am now sure that has been my problem, finding it hard to lose weight and sometimes having high readings, so armed with my carb book, I am cutting right down.
Already today 2 hrs after my lunch I had a reading of 6.6 ... I could not believe it. That has really spurred me on.
I wonder if I may just ask, how many carbs should I have in a day?
Thank you again for such great advice.

Hi Cinnamon welcome to the forum 🙂. No set rules for carbs, your BGL is spot on so you must be doing something right, test and correct on each meal until you have a good idea of what foods suit you. A food diary will help along with your BGL, test before & 2 hours after each meal, In that way you can see what you need to keep your BGL correct.

Well done on getting such a good BG level after a meal.
As others have said there is no rule for amount of carbs, you need to find what works for you.
It took me ages to realise that if I lowered my carbs I would reduce the spikes that is got after meals.
Once I reduced the carbs to a more sensible level I made my spikes into blips.

Oh good grief - you've been given the worst possible advice by someone who should know better. There are no essential carbs - we can exist on protein and fat, in fact they are essential, but carbs are what a diabetic cannot deal with. By lowering the amount of carbs to what can be coped with many people find that their diabetes is negated - they lose weight, have more energy and feel better.
I ate a maximum of 50 gm a day until my blood tests were normal - now I am trying to lose more weight so have reduced to 40 gm. I can eat more carbs now, but if I do I put on weight, so I don't want to do that. I have already had to replace my clothes twice as I shrank out of them.

Yes the penny has finally dropped that I really have been doing it wrong!
I keep a food diary but now instead of counting cals syns and whatever else, I will be focusing on carbs.
This morning my waking reading was 8.6 ... too high so I shall be trying to stick to 50g carbs.
Well done Drummer you have done so well and I am grateful to you all for any advice and guidance you can give.

Am a newbie and have received loads of helpful advice from the forum re food. I am now seeing what works and what doesn't. After testing I find that much of what I thought would be ok is clearly not. Readings stuck around 8.7 and 8.9 way to high need to bring them down. Will now try stir fry veg etc see what that will bring. Have ditched porridge for breakfast - will go for scrambled egg...

I am exactly the same Sharron, thinking I thought I was eating healthily but sugars too high and weight loss too slow.
Thanks to very good advice on here I am watching and reducing my carbs and thankfully getting better results.
