Hi

I'm Mike new to here but not diabetes. I have been diabetic for 17 years.

Well hello from me

Mike

Hallo Mike. Welcome!

Hi Mike and welcome 🙂
Are you on MDI or a pump?

Hi Mike

The return to MDI should make your life a lot more flexible. I know that once I had understood how to adjust my doses based on the foods, level of exercise and many other things, as well as doing corrections things became a lot easier. Are you now carb counting? Have you done an education course such as DAFNE?

I look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome @Mikep73!🙂

Snap! I’ve been a diabetic for 17 years too! But, I’m a T2 now on insulin, though!

Yup had all the dafne courses etc lol my problem was psychological more than anything as I had to leave the army due to becoming type1. Made me rebel for a LLLLOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGG time. But I hope that this time (touch wood) that I'm in the right place to be healthy and happy.

Hi Lanny

Wow what are the chances eh?? (I'd say but odds was never a strong point for me lol) my mum's recently found out she's type2 and needs insulin due to prolonged use of steroids for asthma (made her gain a lot of weight and make it virtually impossible to shed).

Mike

Poor mum I sincerely hope she's getting the right medication, a meter and an adequate supply of test strips and hasn't been put on a ''Low fat/Carbs with everything/there's no need to T2s to test" regime. In comparison in the main - T1s are actually treated far better than T1s plus it's a lot easier to understand usually.

Jolly well done you, for getting your head round it - takes a while anyway whatever your circumstances to do that without having to lose your job through it, so that would have made it that much harder for you and you have my sympathy too.

Now - beat it into enough submission and keep it there, so you can live together as comfortably as you possibly can - it's only a challenge for the rest of your life, whatever! LOL

I've always found it helpful for the last 46 years to be able to say to my husband when I've started to enjoy whatever I'm eating (be that my dinner or an ice cream) - Oh bugger! - you never told me I was diabetic before I started to eat this! - when I haven't even thought about testing or working out how many carbs or my bolus dose!
