Very newly diagnosed and waiting for my appointment with the practice nursey to get told off for being overweight and sedentary🙄

So far I the only advice I have had is from reading forums and a variety of web pages lots of which conflict with each other so I am just winging it at the moment.

I am fully au fait with LCHF impact on BG levels so have resorted to lowering carbs to a much lower level than before (heading off to Lidls on Saturday for some protein rolls - gotta have my bacon butty on a Sunday morning 😉).

I had an affair with Atkins in the early 2000's so already know the tricks to lower carbs in meals. I lost 120lbs but sadly bought into the dangers of Atkins and switched to slimming world/weight watchers and watched my weight slowly creep up and up. Need to shed 60lbs to get to a comfortable weight again. I also need to get rid of carbs in my life - it would seem I do not tolerate them too well *sigh*

My name is Lynn and I am a sugar addict!!!

There - I have said it. I have a sweet tooth - in fact my fillings are done by Cadburys. I will need to kick that one into touch for the foreseeable future :(

No real questions for now - BG meter on order and apparently 'on its way to me'. Low carb recipe books dusted off and placed back on the bookshelf. So for now it is wait and see for the appointment on the 15th.

I did ask what my readings were and she said normal is 47 - yours is 74. Not really sure what that means so will hope to find out in the near future.

I will say thank you to all the contributors on here for all the great advice you give and the help you give to newbies - you are all legends.

Hi Lynn, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sounds like you have a pretty good handle on things, but if there is anything that crops up we are always available! There is a lot of conflicting information around, and some people can be very inflexible in their opinions of what you need to do to bring levels under control. In truth though, diabetes is a very individual condition and what works for one person may not work for another, so it's a case of weighing up the various suggestions and finding out what combination works to bring you to good health and happiness 🙂 The 74 and 47 mentioned will be the HBa1c blood glucose results, a measure of how your body has coped with glucose over the previous 3 months - 47 or below is what you need to aim for 🙂

Our particular favourite sources of information are Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter and Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker, plus there are links to many other good resources in our Useful links thread.

Good luck with the nurse, and let us know how you get on 🙂

Thanks for the welcome Northerner. I have just been trotting round the useful links thread and reading and reading some more to get a handle on what works for the majority for now. Once my meter arrives I will be able to see what is what and adjust accordingly.

I will have a look at the other links you suggest and see what I can find out from them.

Oh I did forget to say Type 2 but I am sure you are all saying 'yeah yeah - we guessed that one'.

Hi Lynn, welcome to the fountain of knowledge! I love this forum and everyone has been a great help to me since I joined. I was diagnosed as type 2 in August, my HbA1c was at 127, my target has been set at 48! I have my follow up test for this on the 15th december. I have since found out (wednesday this week) that I am actually a bit rare with the type of diabetes that I have. I am actually MODY (maturity onset diabetes of the young!). So I am now doing yet more reading!!! If it wasnt for the people and advice on this forum I would have just carried on with what I was prescribed from day one. Instead I have listened and definately learned. Its thanks to this lot on here I am where I am today with lower daily blood glucose readings and a much better understanding of things. So make yourself at home and ask as many questions that you need. I am a weight watchers follower and have lost 7 stone in 2 years, so that works for me. Tried Atkins and didnt like it!

Hiya Stitch - thanks for the welcome. Slimming World red days and basic low carb with fruit so it is doable but I find a more rigid you can have or not have far more suitable to my gluttony 😳 Well done on the 7 stone off - I hope to be celebrating that sort of figure myself in the not too distant future.

I am not sure I will be miss diagnosed - MODY - hmmmm - think that ship has sailed somewhat!

So am I!!! Plus VAT, shipping and handling and import duty!!!😛

My mate got diagnosed Type 1 after they'd told her she was T2 from her diagnosis in her late 50s - but quickly realised no tablets worked and so was on insulin only anyway, after the first few months.

Don't think one's actual birth age has much to do with the price of fish whatsoever, these days!
