🙂 I was first diagnosed with Type II Diabetes about a year ago but have only just started Metformin and glucose testing at home.

I have no idea how best to dispose of the used lancets. At the moment I am putting them in an empty jar with a lid but I'm not happy about put that in the dustbin.

 Any advice most welcome.

You should be able to get, on prescription, a sharps bin from the Pharmacy - ask your GP next time you see them, or the surgery nurse perhaps?

Hi EthelT, welcome to the forum 🙂 Disposal of sharps does seem to vary up and down the country. Some people have special sharps bins prescribed, which are then taken to the surgery or pharmacy, whereas in some places the council will take them, so it would be worth enquiring at your surgery to see what applies in your area 🙂

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, and we will do our best to answer them for you!

Thanks both - I will ring my GP to see if I can get a sharps bin. Seems obvious that I should have one.

I am still in a bit of a daze, stupidly I thought that because I wasn't on medication for diabetes I didn't need to take it seriously and the penny has just dropped. Need to overhaul my whole lifestyle, so will have lots of questions.

Nice to know there is a friendly forum I can turn to. 🙂

Ethel, it might be worth getting a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker, even though it isn't your first year. It's a very positive book and recommended by many of our members. Don't worry about what's gone before, start afresh 🙂
