Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi, I an 41 and was diagnosed with diabetes in 2006.I am type 2 who was on metformin for a year and then had to go straight onto insulin.

I am on levemir and novorapid and metformin.I am having a tough time managing my diabetes and nobody seems to care so I will probably ask for some advice later on.

I'm very newly diagnosed type 2, diet and exercise only, so not much help to you lol.

Yeah struggling on everything,can't get anything right ,feel a bit of a failure about it all and to top it all I have developed a fear of hypos.

I test too much and panick too much and sometimes I get so fed up I eat too much.

But I want to get better for my two children so they have a mummy for lots of years to come.
 
Hi Daisy, welcome to the forum 🙂 Unfortunately, it seems commonplace that people are often left to 'get on with it' and struggle with their diabetes management. Here, though, you will find many friendly and helpful people with a very broad range of experiences who will try their best to get you back to feeling good and confident about your blood sugar control 🙂

It's never too late to learn something new, and diabetes is far more complex than people are often led to believe. What you need to do is to work out how things work for you. I presume that, as you are on insulin, you have access to a meter and are prescribed test strips? Do you 'carb count'? i.e. do you match the amount of novorapid you inject to the amount of carbohydrate in your meals? If not, then I would recommend that you learn as this will give you much better control and flexibility.

Also, to bring your knowledge up to date and give you a good understanding of the latest thinking on how to manage your diabetes well, consider getting a copy of the highly recommended Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker. G'day DaisyDuke

Possibly you could give us an idea of your daily routine, especially your meals and activities. That may help some of the experienced people here offer some tips to help with your diabetes management.
 
Hi daisyduke and welcome from me too 🙂

Diabetes can seem overwhelming at times, but most of us have been there so can sympathise with your struggles/frustrations.
Totally understand your fear of hypos - they're never something to look forward to, but they are a routine side-affect of insulin therapy. Thing is, you can learn how to control it for the majority of time; you just gotta remember that, sometimes, diabetes will present you with something that you can't explain :confused:
Trick with the testing (glad to hear that you're doing lots) is to analyse the results and act on it, especially for longer-term improvements.
 
Welcome to the forum Daisyduke,

There is a lot of experience here for you to tap into. Some of it may be contradictory, but that is the nature of diabetes some times. We all seem to be different in one aspect or another.

But the good thing is you will eventually (hopefully sooner rather than later) hit upon something that makes a big difference for you.
