A little late to the discussion but I will point you in the direction of the Freshwell program which for me was successful by keeping to below 130g carbs not just sugar per day. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
Prepared foods can be tricky as it is hard to know how many carbs there are but almost certainly higher than that same meal you might prepare at home.
Having the meat or fish and veg and salad and giving the potatoes, rice, pasta a miss. Preparing food you can take in is a better choice.

Thanks for the suggestion of the website, I think I saw it earlier on today. I've started gathering different ideas for recipes and meals that help me to lower my carb intake. Luckily I'm not a fussy eater and willing to try most foods.

Hi all,

Diagnosed 2 weeks ago with type 2, HbA1c level of 51. There is a history of diabetes in the family but still a shock when I was told. I’ve been started on statins and trying diet and exercise to bring my levels down, first gym session in a few years today! For me, diet is going to be a challenge as I work shifts but I’m determined to find a solution.
Welcome! Yes it’s a huge shock - even if you were expecting it.
Sounds like meal prepping may be an idea for you?
