Champagne not on the banned list? Really? That's amazing! And has cheered me right up. I have so much to learn!

And a chocolate éclair? Today is going to be better than I thought. Thank you!
Oh and ..... HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :D

Enjoy your day.

Sorry to hear you’ve had to scrabble around to get some additional checks before the healthcare system leaps into action. And that it all unfolded while you were away (as others have said, this does seem to happen more often than you’d expect!).

Hope you are able to get some treatment started soon - hopefully insulin to start getting those levels down!

Let us know how things go 🙂

I'm afraid I'm not being very patient while waiting for the NHS to get in gear!

Will get there, I'm sure but feel a bit anxious having numbers like this and knowing it probably needs insulin I just want it started.

Completely understandable. It’s pretty scary that you’ve been left with levels that high (potentially critically so) with so little urgency in the response.

You may want to consider contacting PALS to highlight your experience - as you say, not everyone would have your capacity to press for action.

Well, finally today someone took responsibility for my care! Luckily I've managed to survive until now.

So, I left a message at the GP's this morning, saying that I still hadn't had my second blood test results. 15 minutes later the GP rang, having checked my records, officially gave me a diabetes diagnosis, has prescribed metformin and gliclazide and requested a urine sample and warned me that if there was ketones in my urine it would be an admission to hospital.

I've dropped my urine sample off this afternoon and I'm waiting for the phone call. My dipsticks indicated 2+ ketones, so I guess I'm going in?

So pleased that you have managed to get someone to sit up and take notice. It really shouldn't be this way, but we are seeing it more and more often with new members on the forum and it really is shocking. In some respects it may be better if you are admitted to hospital and hopefully that will fast track you to the diabetes clinic/consultant or at least a DSN, otherwise you are likely to be left waiting again for a referral.

Please let us know how you get on. Good luck!
