Welcome to the forum
Can you think of anything that has changed from when your diabetes was being well managed, the most significant can be your tolerance to carbohydrates has changes and you can no longer cope with the amount you are eating
Do you know what your HbA1C as that will give an indication of how much work you will need to do, meds will help but dietary changes will also be needed.
Many people find a low carbohydrate approach successful so this link may help you, https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/
I suspect dietary ideas may have changed even in the time since your diagnosis.

Welcome to the forum @Colin bigshow

Sorry to hear your diabetes has taken a bit of a turn :(

Sometimes people’s diabetes can change over time, and their strategies and management processes can need a bit of a tweak.

Which meds have you been started on? And can you remember your most recent HbA1c level, plus what it would normally have been over the past few years, just to give members a sense of how things have changed for you.

As @Leadinglights suggests, it’s important to balance any meds you are prescribed and your body’s current ability to cope with carbohydrate with some possible tweaks and changes to your menu. This may involve portion control of starchy carbohydrates alongside avoiding any obviously ‘sweet’ things.

Good luck with finding a new balance to return your BG levels back into range, and hopefully get your knee surgery back on track. 🙂
