Have you been checked for ketones or do you have any ketone sticks? You can get ones that you pee on from the pharmacy, or ask for an urgent GP appointment to review them again?
I did get a test at the GP and he did detect them. Ketosis is when you don't have enough carbs right? So how do I fix that if I'm not supposed to eat them?

That is something different to Diabetic ketoacidosis which is dangerous.

Just talked to a Doctor. I'm not type 2 but they can't confirm type 1 either yet. He said not to worry I won't need insulin if they can control it with Gliclazide which is what they're attempting to do now.

Gliclazide encourages the pancreas to produce more insulin. That could work I daresay if the pAncreas is healthy but if the insulin producing cells in the pancreas are already struggling to keep going, is it a good idea to just 'They' are not coming home with you to supervise your using whatever, are they/flog them harder ..... just as well I don't have to make decisions about what to prescribe, ain't it !

Tim - 'They' do not treat your diabetes. YOU do. All 'They' do is assist you by prescribing whatever, and advising you how to use whatever they prescribe.

Whatever type you are it sounds as you are going to need insulin so you should press for referral to your specialist diabetic clinic asap.

Had my second best result today 13.7. That is pre breakfast though. I'll try to cut yet more carbs today to see if it makes a difference. I've been suffering a bit of early morning dry mouth and peeing . I keep drinking plenty of water. I feel like I'm wasting away. Surely there's a way of arresting the weight loss. I'm not underweight just yet probably still a little bit above my ideal weight. And of course anxiety makes me tachycardic which burns even more calories:(
It looks as though you are not type 2 at all - you must not do low carb - I got a rocket from the moderators for advising someone asking for low carb recipes when they were not type 2 - so you must go all out to get proper treatment - which I would venture does seem to be insulin from all I have read. High blood glucose and weight loss should have red flags waving and alarm bells going off.

Thanks I'm sure you're right but right now I'm following the advice of my diabetes nurse. I'm likely to be type 1 but now they are trying to control my sugar until I have a diagnosis.

High blood sugars, “feel like I’m wasting away”, ketones detected… sounds like some form of type 1 to me too. Would at least ask for ketone sticks so you can keep an eye on your ketone levels, but if at any point your blood sugar is high and you have other symptoms of DKA (feeling sick, fruity breath) just go to a&e

Will do. I feel fine. It is type 1 for certain but they won't give me insulin until I have a diagnosis. I'm on Gliclazide and it helps but readings always between 10 and 20. Seeing Diabetic nurse next week.

That seems a bit the wrong way round, they should be giving you insulin until you have a diagnosis. People who are Type 2 may need insulin anyway.

I'm going to stop posting and trust my health care provider. Thanks everyone for your time but confusion is something I don't need right now. I do not yet have a firm diagnosis of anything. I just really feel more distressed than ever right now. Bye

I'm sorry you feel like that but people's comments come from concern about your welfare and the potential problems that might arise from not being diagnosed correctly at an early stage.
