Just be careful about reducing carbs too quickly especially if you have previously had a very high carb diet, it is better to do it in stages as otherwise you can get problems with your eyes and nerves. Some people will need to go very low carb but there are many who will successfully reduce blood glucose to the desired level by having around the 100g carbs per day. Those going very low will do so by using their monitor to test their tolerance to the carbs in their meals.

Just on this - back in 2011 I completed a 6 month programme on a diet called Alizone now called Alevere and lost 63KG - It cost me over £6k and I looked and felt incredible. However when it was time to reintroduce real food, and calorie counting, my metobolic rate meant that I could eat 1700 calories a day to maintain that weight. I struggled, I had more food issues than I really understood about myself at that time, I eat when upset, I eat when happy, I eat when hungry - I am always hungry, I constantly look in the cupboards, I look in the cupboards again... I did not and still have not fully addressed these issues, control is Ok for a while, but my goodness can I go off the rails, Over the last decade I put back on 79KG - not proud of myself at all here. I am not confessing either, its just the simple facts. I want to change what I do for the rest off my life, I want to feel well and alive and stop all these stupid yo yo diets and quick fixes and for me its putting in the hard work and slog to bring everything into line so I can live well. But I wish you well, make sure they offer you support when you return to isocaloric eating. 🙂

The best suggestion I have is to make sure your cupboard has real food in it. Nobody is gaining weight eating lettuce, or even steak. Get the snacks out of the house. Also, look at eating a high protein diet. Protein has higher satiety than either carbs or fat. You've got an eating issue that goes beyond eating the right things, but that is the place to start. I sympathize, I'm addicted to sugar like an alcoholic. It's not safe to have it in the house. When I do, I have my wife hide it, and I ask her for a portion, and that's all She's supposed to give me. As an aside let me tell you that when you're addicted to sugar its like you have two separate appetites. I can eat a nice healthy meal, not feel a bit hungry, but have intense sugar cravings. I still don't know how I'm going to successfully handle that once I get into remission. It will be the last dragon I have to slay. So again, best advice...one step at a time. Only buy real food is the first step. Be good to yourself.

Thank you everyone that replied, you sharing your thoughts etc. has been helpful. Just focusing on Breakfast, If I had small amount of blue/rasp/strawberries all fresh and Natural Yog - question is it better for the nat yog to be 0% fat or full fat and why is the one you say better?. Also what do you eat for your breakfast?

I think that all depends what your goal are. I’m working on weight loss through a moderate protein low fat diet, so I’d choose fat free for less calories, unless I found that doesn’t fill me up enough and I eat something out of hunger later on, then I’d try swapping to full fat. Others on here would go straight for full fat as they don’t need to worry about calories.

The program I’m on says breakfast should have more protein than carb, but to include some carb. So I’ve just had 2 scrambled eggs (microwaved, no butter) with spring onions on 1 piece of toast with low fat olive spread.

Others on here who do low carb high fat would have made the same meal differently, eg scrambling with butter or putting a bit of cheese on or only having half a piece of toast

Everyone’s goals and needs are different

I found that 0% fat yoghurt (Fage) was a bit tasteless and I was hungry very quickly afterwards. I use 5% fat and it's just right with a dollop of peanut butter, berries and some cinnamon. I do measure the portions, though. Around 75g of yoghurt and 15g of peanut butter. I just throw a handful of raspberries on.

If you are having yogurt for breakfast you need to find one you like regardless of whether it id full fat, low fat or somewhere in between because different brand can have very different flavour and texture.
I certainly find the 0% fat far too acidic and some of the full fat ones are too thick. My preference is the Aldi or ASDA own brand ones.
With some berries and a scattering 20g of some low sugar granola ( which I make from a 50/50 mix of Lizi's low sugar 45g carb per 100g and Keto Hana granola 9g carb per 100g so the mix is about 26g carb per 100g ), that is filling enough.
Other days I have eggs with either bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, poached, scrambled with smoked salmon, boiled with a small slice of toast.9

Fage sheeps milk yoghurt. Proper old fashioned Greek yoghurt. Tangy alright! and precisely why 40+ years ago, they automatically slapped a jar of runny honey (the 'clear' sort) on the table with your dish of yog - in any random taverna in Greece. (I still reckon it was more likely to be goats milk though, then, same as feta cheese .....)

I really fancied that yoghurty breakfast again, so I went with an Alpro greek style, blueberries, and the last sprinkle of an aging nutty Dorset Cereals muesli.

Yum!
