Okay thank you. I think I will get one of these. Good luck with your next blood test. Sounds like you will get a better result. I fear mine will be up a bit. Hopefully I can counteract that with being good like I am now, All Bran excepted.Im pretty sure it accurate - I also purchased a 'control solution' on buying my monitor and the readings i got for the machine were within range, so im happy its giving me accurate reading (I know there is an allowable discrepancy for all equipment). I got from Amazon i think around £8 for 50 strips. Long shelf life but watch the date you open the pot as it only lasts i think 6 months?? you will have to confirm that. (Theres a space on the pot to write day opened on it, useful if you dont test a lot)....but seeing as I dont have a 'formal diagnosis' i cant get the diabetic discount that is available on these kinds of purchases, something I must ask my Dr about next time i go in!!......Im not testing as much as i used to because i pretty much have my menu sorted now, just do new foods/recipes now . (My next HB1Ac will tell me if i got things right! - here's hoping!)
Does that apply to other beans, eg haricot (naked baked beans), cannellini or butter beans? Or just baked beans in tomato sauce. I rely on beans of all kinds as I don't eat meat don't always want Quorn type products especially as many or breadcrumbed.for most type twos it isn't just the sugars, it is the starch - so sugar free beans are still a high carb-ish food, and for some, like me they seem to punch above their weight, giving a higher than expected rise in BG which seems to hang on for some time too.
Really. Why is that? Ha ha I've just realised what you mean. Neither seem to particularly have that effect on meMetformin + Baked Beans = Apocalypse.
I do take chia seeds tsp daily but I don't think they make any difference to anything. This is a problem I've had for a year and a half even before I realised I was diabetic. I've been checked. It's just one of those things. I will try dividing the portion tomorrow with yogurt. It's all very tricky when you are trying to stick to 800 cals though (Fast 800 diet)I'm with @Drummer. Even the no added sugar baked beans spike me high for many hours, so it is worth testing your reaction when you get your new meter. Many people also find chia seeds help with achieving regular bowel movements. I really struggled with constipation when I first went low carb and cut out grains but I found that my body adjusted after a few months. If you are going to continue with All Bran, try it with cream or creamy natural yoghurt and see if that will slow the glucose release down or split the portion and have half in the morning and the rest at suppertime.
Thanks Barbara. It didn't cross my mind about pulses. I will check it out now I know. Many thanksPulses all spike my BG so you will need to test and see how your body responds. Being vegetarian is certainly more challenging as a Type 2 but eating to your BG meter is the best advice any of us can give you.
Thank you. Heading there now. We will get there.Take a look at this link - it helped me a lot in the early days..... https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/foods
