Hi there, I haven't been feeling well for quite a while. Shaking sweating tremor in lip an tingling in tongue brain fog. Bought a bg monitor. Was having readings of 2.3mmol went to gp and she reffered me to see endocrinologist which I waited a long time. So I paid private and am waiting to into hospital for 72hr fasting.

Oh, so you’ve been having low blood sugar not high? Did you have an HbA1C test at the GP surgery? Are they thinking you’re going high then going too low as some kind of overreaction?

Have you been given any help or advice while you’re waiting for your appointment?

Yeah lows can't seem to keep it up, after eating a meal it will go up say to 5 mmol then after a short time it's away down again. Have been given no advice and feel rubbish. I've started having bad skin breakouts and thrush on my tongue I pretty much don't feel well at all.

That sounds really unpleasant. I think there are a few things that can cause lows like that, so it’s good you’re going to see a specialist. Hopefully you’ll get answers sooner that way.

There is something called reactive hypoglycaemia which is an overreaction to carbs. Perhaps you could try the kind of diet recommended for that to see if it helps at all? The idea is to keep carbs low and eat plenty of high fibre veg, and protein and fat too, so that the meal doesn’t cause an overproduction of insulin and make your blood sugar drop.

Experimenting with different meals and testing your blood sugar might get useful info for your appointment and you might find something that makes you feel a little better.
