Hi I'm Mark, I've been living with Type 1 Diabetes since I was 22 years old ( I'm now 57 ) and it's taken me this long to become a member of Diabetes UK! I still struggle with keeping my blood sugar levels in range despite how much I try and I'm generally around 50-70% in range using Dexcom G7. I have great support from my specialist nurse who is very understanding and encouraging. However I often feel as though I'm failing. I also have a condition called cervical spondylosis ( nerves in the spine being compressed by spinal discs ) for which I have had an operation back in 2019. The operation had little effect, in fact I'm due to have another operation as soon as my blood glucose levels are stabilised for at least a month. I'm taking strong pain medication for this condition which has an impact on my daily living and am wondering if there is anyone out there with similar experience? It would be great to connect.

Hello @MarkyMark1 and welcome! I am familiar with diabetes having been diagnosed way back in the sixties and familiar with spondylosis as both one of my best friends and a former partner have it. I hope the operation is a success as both have found as they age the painkillers that worked in earlier years gradually become unsuitable (not that they do not work but they cause more side effects).

Hello everyone,
I'm a new member of Diabetes UK but not new to having diabetes, I was diagnosed back in 1992.
I have spondylosis and wonder if there is anyone out there who has the same condition and can share your experience and knowledge?
Thanks
Mark

Welcome to the forum @MarkyMark1

Glad you have joined us 🙂

There are a few threads where members share their experiences of living with diabetes and spondylosis here which may be of interest

Unfortunately, I’m not sure we have many members posting regularly who balance the two conditions at the moment.

Hi Mike,
thanks for getting back to me with the threads relating to my enquiry. It's a shame they were posted a while ago.
I hope that I get a response from anyone who is living with the two conditions ( Type 1 Diabetes and Spondylosis )
currently as I'm feeling so alone.
Thanks for your response.
Mark

I completely understand. It can be so helpful to have people alongside that are facing the same struggles and challenges day-to-day.

We do have a number of members balancing the needs of multiple conditions, eg diabetes along with coeliac disease, rheumatoid arthritis, IBS, Addisons, CFS, or things like nerve damage, or kidney damage.

I confess I know very little about spondylosis, but it might help to chat to others balancing the needs of additional conditions?

Hey Mark

No idea whether it will help, but I’ve started a new thread in the General board where people can share their experiences of balancing the needs of multiple conditions.

Hi @MarkyMark1
From a problem solving point of view, I suggest you start a new thread, "Type 1 - How to keep my blood sugar levels in range?" or something like that. No distractions!

Ah we’ve had one of those already :D

That is a very interesting topic but nothing to do with the question I suggested!!!

As far as I can tell from a Korean study spondylosis does not affect control of blood glucose. Conversely hyperglycemia is a risk factor for spinal disorders.

A new topic "Type 1 - How to keep my blood sugar levels in range?" might just help you with your struggle. You never can tell.

I’m tagging @Clare153 here, as another forum member who lives with spondylosis - though I think a different sort? Might be helpful for you two to compare experiences / frustrations / notes ?
