But i am not a newbie to Diabetes as both my husband and son have type 1. My 19 year old son has started writing a blog on how it really effects teenagers, do you think there would be an interest out there ?

Quick answer - yes. But check the competition! It might be really good for other teenage boys, as they are notoriously bad at talking to each other (or, indeed, anyone at all!) face to face about 'serious stuff' so a blog, especially something 'interactive' (and anonymous), could be a god send to them.

The whole teenage food/exercise stuff (ie, re DB) would be really helpful I should think?

Welcome to the forum @wrighton999

There’s quite a thriving diabetes blogging community in the UK. There weren’t so many when I started mine way back when.

There always used to be a lot of diabetes content on Twitter too, and later on Instagram. I don’t know if youngsters have migrated to TikTok with diabetes stuff, but I would not be surprised.

I'm new as well and have been with type 1 for some time. My dad always joked about me having it because I felt so thirsty growing up. Now he doesn't joke about it anymore because it turns out I do have it. This forum is a great resource, but I have come across a few TikTok accounts that post videos on the subject. https://snaptik.pro

Hi, could I just point out that there are some other 'youngsters' (!) on this forum, including, I think, IIRC, some whose parents are here to ask some questions (eg, one about her T1 teenage son going off on his first solo holiday with mates, and how best to ensure he stays safe) and I'm wondering whether therefore there is in a way already a community of 'youngsters' here who could message each other privately and get some kind of support and encouragement amongst each other??

No because the parents of T1 children are not the children, are they? Plus I note that @mtom2001 is hardly a kid!

But the parents might want to tell their children, no? As for 'kids' well, teens into twenties doesn't seem an unreasonable 'community'.

But it's all up to them anyway.

I think there may be interest. Like others have said, parents could tell their diabetic children and ask if they wanted to read it.

I think I maybe be the only teenager who frequents here and I’d be interested in reading it, not sure of anyone else?

Lily, there's at least one mum asking after her son who is heading off on his first mates-holiday/all inclusive, and another young man who is a student and posted, so if you pore through the posts you may id them - and private message perhaps?

I wonder if the forum organisers would think it helpful to create an exclusive 'Youf corner' somewhere (PGL - no parents allowed int!!!!)???!!!

Hello and welcome to the forum @wrighton999

I think that it's such a great idea for your son to be writing a blog! I think it's so important for people in general, but especially young men to express themselves freely and to be open about their struggles. It'll not only just help him though but also help others, which is what makes it such a wonderful idea 🙂 Has he used the forum before?

It would be interesting to know whether his blog has opened your eyes in anyway? Have you learnt anything new about how diabetes affects him, like emotionally for example?
