Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello everyone, I am 57 & have type 2 diabetes since 2013 with regular blood tests ,my recent test showed my hba1c to be elevated from 57 to 61 when it needs to be under 50 the dr said. I take one Forixga and 3 x 800mg Metaformin daily. I would appreciate any advice how to lower this and advice on a low carb non spicy diet as I cant eat spicy or raw veg. In past year I have shed 3.5 stone I believe through taking the Forixga since last year. I being slightly disabled cant walk very far, but I do try. Thanks in advance for any advice / help

Welcome to the forum. People on here are great and I’m sure they will help you. I’m new here too (one month diagnosed) so can’t help much, but welcome.

Welcome to the forum Norm. Have you done any self testing?

Welcome to the forum.
To be low carb you can eat any meat, fish, seafood, eggs, cheese, full fat yoghurt as protein and fat do not impact on blood glucose very much, if at all.
Add in salad stuff and low carb veges, eliminate sugary fruit or other drinks, beer, bread, pasta - any grain is not a good idea, plus starchy veges such as potatoes, and your blood glucose should drop.
Using a testing meter to check that you are not spiking after meals is a good idea, as it shows up what you can or can't cope with.

Hi and welcome. Two of my favourite meals are cottage pie, topped with mashed cauliflower and cheese. The other one is chicken and mushrooms in a white wine sauce with broccoli 😛

Thank you all for wonderful welcome and your replies, very much appreciated, to Ralph YK I use my glucose meter few times a day to keep an eye on my sugars, because I am retired I tend to not get up too early as I find it hard to sleep at night, sometimes I will have my breakfast at 6am I must get used to trying porridge I will try anything to conquer the high hba1c levels, my next blood tests are in March, I may have to attend my dr to tweak my meds, also an appointment with a dietician but I have done that before and haven't found this "Food Triangle" plan any good. Thanks again to you all. I will be on here again, if I can help anyone just ask.

For a quick breakfast, or sometimes supper, I have scrambled eggs into which I mix grated cheese just as it is coming to the end of cooking, then I drop a thinly sliced tomato on the top and cover it with a plate for a minute, then tip out and enjoy - you can add a pinch of herbs and mix in just before adding the tomato, for a bit of variety. I use basil, oregano, savory and marjoram, or chives.

Hello and welcome. Well done on the fabulous weight loss. 🙂
