Welcome to the forum. You have found a good place for advice from those of us living with the condition.
I was diagnosed a little later than you (53) and it is a major life change, but it is manageable, even if at times it doesn’t feel like it.

The best analogy I have heard is that it is like learning to drive. It seems a lot to think about at the start but much of it then becomes automatic.

If you are happy to do so, it will help us in our responses to any questions if we know what insulin(s) you are using, and whether you have been given a sensor. These can make life a lot easier and it is more common now for people to be given them.

Two books that I would recommend are
Think Like A Pancreas - Gary Scheiner
Type 1 Diabetes in children, adolescents and young adults -Ragnar Hanas (ignore the age reference just miss out the chapter on starting school!!)

Come back with any questions that arise, and I found there were a lot at the start. Nothing is considered silly on here. Just ask.

Welcome to the forum @Cariblu76

Glad you have found us. It can be so helpful to be able to compare notes, frustrations, struggles, happy accidents, and I AM A DIABETES GENIUS moments (when you freakishly guess an impossible meal and factor in impending illness, alcohol and unusual activity levels and get perfect results!

Two resources that are frequently suggedted for T1s here are

Type 1 Diabetes in Children Adolescents and Young People by Ragnar Hanas - ignore the title - this book is relevant to people of all ages!

and

Think Like a Pancreas by Gary Scheiner - A practical guide to managing diabetes with insulin

Good luck, and keep asking questions!
