Hello, I’ve just received my diagnosis this morning and had a chat over the phone with a diabetes nurse. Feeling a bit overwhelmed, especially with Christmas around the corner

Hello Mrs Bee and welcome to the forum.
Are you type 1 or type 2 and have you been put on any medication for it.
It can be a bit overwhelming at first, but you've come to the right place.
Any questions you want to ask just do so on the message board, and someone is bound to know the answer.
Best wishes
Martin

Welcome to the forum! Do you know what your HbA1c was? What medication have you been put on or is it just diet? ( I see you profile says type 2)

Hello @Mrs Bee welcome to the forum. I was diagnosed in October and felt like I was staring into the diabetes abyss! However, it was just gazing into the unknown and not knowing what was going to happen or what I could do about it that was making me worry. Since then, I've read as much as I can to find out about diabetes, in books and on this site, done a few courses in the Learning Zone and made changes to my diet and lifestyle to help get me as healthy as possible.

Ask any questions you have, I've found the forum members absolutely lovely and helpful. Best wishes, Sarah

Thank you for such a lovely welcome. I’m only just in with 50, I’ve been offered Metaformin, but chose to try and change my lifestyle first
Well done you for choosing that option first, very possible by reducing your intake of carbs. either cutting some thigs out or just reducing portion sizes of the high carb foods, with a bit of substitution for lower carb versions.
