Type 2
Hello Everyone, I am a 40 something male who was diagnosed with type 2 back in 2013.
A little bit about myself.
I started off treating it with diet and got good HbA1c readings for the first few years (and lost a lot of weight). Since then the readings have crept up (as has my weight), and I am now on Metformin. My last HbA1c reading, back in January, was the highest I have recorded so far and my next blood test is booked for a few days time. If I am honest I am dreading the result of it.

Please be gentle with me as this is the first forum I have joined!

Looking forward to getting to know you and learning from all of you.

Probably one of the best things you will do today. Everyone has been amazing and helped me start coming to terms with what has happened/happening to me. This forum along side my family have become my rock. Welcome and hope your next tests go well.

Welcome to the forum Iceberg from a fellow T2

Welcome to the forum.🙂

Welcome @Iceberg
The first step is always the hardest but believe me when I say you have done absolutely the best thing coming here.
Keep posting and let us know how things go, we are genuinely interested.

Hello Iceberg, welcome to the forum.
I think most ou us get a bit jittery coming up to review time.
Also it’s very easy for us to fall off the wagon and the getting back on again isn’t always easy either, yup I’ve got the T shirt 🙂.

Are there any particular problems that you are having ?

We have a wealth of info and many experienced people on here who are willing to share what has worked well for them, so ask away, ok

Hi Iceberg,
Welcome to the land of information, support and lovely people :D

Hi Iceberg, welcome to the forum.

You certainly won't be the first person to take your eye off the ball and you won't be the last.

Your new number may not be as bad as you think, as @Ljc said many of us feel a little apprehensive pre review. Whatever it is, it's the starting point for you to move forward and get to where you want to be. You've done it before, so you know you can do it again.

The forum is always here to help if required. Good luck🙂

Thank you for your welcome, everyone.
I have learnt so much already from the small amount of the forum that I have read, just wished I had found it earlier.
Hopefully my blood test will be a fairly good reading, but I am not optimistic, I will just have to wait and see.
I am sure that I will be asking you all a lot more questions in the future.
Thank you.

Welcome to the forum. I think many of us have slipped at some point, I did the first 6 months after diagnosis I did really well, then went away on holiday, ate badly and just struggled from then onward. Now back on track. You can do this with the support you will receive on here.

Just giving you an update, my blood reading was 7.3. which was a bit better than I was expecting but I still feel disappointed. Good news my cholesterol reading was good.
Now have to make an appointment to see my GP, has she wants to discuss putting me on another tablet. Expect I will get the appointment around the end of June.
Quick question where can I find a converter list for HbA1c from % to mols?

Welcome @Iceberg from a fellow 40 something type 2.
Sorry to hear your diabetes is not as well controlled as you would like it to be. Joining this forum will help you get info, support and hopefully you will be able to get your levels down.
We're all perfectly tame. Take a look at the advice to newbies section and feel free to ask questions. Good luck.

Hi Iceberg! Someone told me, shortly after I started posting here, that I don't sound like I am taking this seriously. The reason was that I just didn't have a clue and every choice I made was wrong for someone with diabetes. That was not long ago...I was getting readings of 9s and 10s back then...even a 14.1 once...and frankly panicking. Now, after taking the advice of these lovely people, I am getting mainly 6's and 7's with quite a few 5's and 4's thrown in....now I am not panicking at all and as a lovely side-effect I am losing weight slowly but surely. The main thing is this: I am not dieting. I have learned what my body will and will not tolerate which has meant me dropping things like bread, potatoes, rice and pasta from my meals and finding tasty, filling alternatives. Guess what? There are millions of them!!! Yum. Just remember, I was a hopeless case...if I could do it, anyone can. Good luck from someone who can now see a light at the end of the tunnel xx

Well done Theresa Dawn, great work with those bloods and nicely put about the food choices, I couldn’t agree more 😉
