Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi to you all. I am a little perplexed my name is Lorraine and I have lived in Bulgaria before Christmas I became a little ill loads of little symptoms most of which I put down to winter, I went to the doctors and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes... I am so so confused I hope some of you nice people can point me in the right direction as some of the foods you can get in uk you cant get here, however on the salad front I am top of the form.... be great hearing from you.

Hi Rainey, welcome to the forum 🙂 I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. The main thing you need to consider is carbohydrates, so things like pasta, rice, bread, potatoes, pastry will all raise your blood glucose levels, so you need to make sure that you don't eat too many of these. Have a read of Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter - these should help you understand diabetes and what you need to do to manage it well.

It is a good idea to start a food diary and write down the amount of carbohydrate in everything you are eating and drinking fr a couple of weeks. You can then look at this and try to identify places where you might be able to substitute things to improve your diet. For example, more vegetables and less potato. Please ask if you have any questions and we will try our best to help!

Hello Rainey, welcome to the forum. Have you been prescribed any drugs yet? Many of us in the UK start off on 'diet & exercise' with very little advice about what that means! Do have a look at the reading material in the 'sticky' at the top of the Newbies section and post any specific questions. We'll do our best to help.

Welcome to the forum rainey 🙂
