Type 2
Hi all,

I am a newly diagnosed Type 2 with HbA1C of 77.

I experienced no symptoms at all so the diagnosis came as quite a shock. It was picked up in a routine blood test.

I used to eat badly and not exercise at all but that all changed last November (before I was diagnosed). I started going to the gym, eating better and have lost 21lbs. I just need to keep that going and work hard to improve my life style.

I started on metformin this week. Starting with 1 500 mg tablet for the first week, 2 for the second week, 3 for the third week and 4 for the fourth week. At the moment it doesn't seem to be agreeing with my tummy but I'm hoping that will improve in time.

My next blood test is on 1st July so I'm hoping to see some kind of an improvement in that time.

I have mixed emotions about it. In one way I feel that at least it was picked up, diagnosed and I'm able to work on it. On the other I feel quite annoyed with myself for bringing me to this point with my bad lifestyle.

I'm trying to adjust, move on and work with this diagnosis. I'm looking forward to chatting to other people with the same diagnosis.

Hi kazzyscruff and welcome. I was diagnosed last year type 2 and went through the anger at myself, recrimination stuff but it's pretty pointless really. What you're now doing is the important thing and thank goodness you were routinely picked up at a blood test.

Sounds like you've got your head round it and the exercise and weight loss will help enormously 🙂

I couldn't tolerate Metformin so am doing it diet only. My Hba1c was 52 at dx and 41 last time. I've had severe illness that may impact on that but some things can't be helped. Important thing is you're now committed to healthier eating and I feel sure you'll crack this as a result!

Hi Kazzyscruff. Welcome to the forum. Don't beat yourself up about your eating habits. It may have nothing to do with your diagnosis. Like most of us here, you were just unlucky. Good to see you have turned yourself around. Great weight loss. It will all help.🙂

Hi Kazzyscruff, welcome to the forum 🙂 As the others have said, don't beat yourself up - you've already taken some very positive steps to improve your situation, and a diagnosis is often the thing that can spur people into action. There is a very strong genetic link to Type 2, so you can blame your parents or grandparents 😱 😉 Please let us know if there is anything we can help you with, there is always someone here when you need and answer or some advice/explanations 🙂

Hi and welcome to the forum. I too was picked up on a blood test for something else. Also no symptoms prior.

It's not a lifestyle problem but it does seem to be the luck of the draw.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Mine was picked up by chance too as I had no symptoms and my HbA1c was 127 despite loosing 6 stone in weight!!! This forum is a great place for help and advice so dont be afraid to ask any questions.

Not your fault. Happened to me and I was not overweight, ate well and very active.
