Type 1.5 LADA
Hi,

I was diagnosed a few months ago but only recently found this forum. Initially diagnosed with Type 1, then later ( after more blood tests) changed to LADA. Not that there's any difference in the treatment so it's the same thing really. I'm now on Lantus and Novorapid and generally coping OK, still get a bit down about things sometimes but I know it could be a lot worse. It's nice to have found this forum as I don't really know anyone else with Type 1 / LADA - especially at my age ( 50-ish)!

Welome to the forum, Lorien.

There are quite a few members who were diagnosed and started insulin in adulthood.

What's important / fun in your life? Sports, hobbies, family, job etc?

Hi Lorien, welcome to the forum 🙂 I was diagnosed aged 49, and am essentially LADA. I was originally on novorapid and lantus, but had to keep reducing my lantus until I ended up on just novorapid! Clearly, my pancreas is still just about working to a small extent. It's good that they arrived at a firm diagnosis for you, so many people our age get diagnosed as Type 2, purely due to age, and then end up on inappropriate treatment.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. People's experiences here are wide and varied, so whatever is confusing or troubling you will usually come up with an answer or a number of suggestions! 🙂

Welcome Lorien, as mentioned, there are lots of us late developers:D. Me? I was 42. The forum is a great help, it feels like you have hundreds of people looking out for you, cheering you up and making you laugh, as well as a huge amount of combined experience.

Hiya
Another late blossoming flower here, last year at age 40. Can't say it's been fun, but the folks here are great so you're in the right place 🙂

Welcome to the forums Lorien 🙂

Are you the First One? :D

hi Lorien. Welcome to the club nobody wanted to join! I'm another late developer here, type1/LADA at 51.

Thanks everyone, its nice to know I'm not alone! I was beginning to get a bit fed up with people saying 'Type 1 diabetes - aren't you a bit old for that, I thought only children got it?' I never usually mention LADA as nobody has ever heard of it! Was beginning to feel a bit of a freak or maybe everyone else on here is a freak as well, but at least I'm in good company.

No we're NORMAL - the others are all Muggles !

I agree, nobody's ever heard of LADA, and that includes my GP! to be fair, The diabetic centre at our local main teaching hospital seems to have dropped the term. When I was first diagnosed, it said 'Type 1/LADA on the heading of the notes sent to my GP afterwards, but then it changed to 'Type1 autoimmune'
